University of Kentucky

UK is a great school in a beautiful city with a lot of Kentucky pride. However, after graduating undergrad from a small, liberal arts school, it is difficult to give much praise to the University of Kentucky.

The quality of education I received at UK was subpar to that of Wittenberg University. This may be due to the abundance of opportunities that were available at Witt, small class sizes, professors with passion whose focus was on teaching the students, small community of peers and close social... Read More networks, and an emphasis on learning and growing intellectually through reading, writing, and speaking engagements and not multiple guess exams alone.

I have attended the University of Kentucky for the past 4 years, and can genuinely say that, aside from some minor issues, I have loved every minute of it! The atmosphere on campus is fabulous and there is always something fun going on. The campus feels safe, and although it is large, there are a wide variety of ways to feel at home.

Although many of the core classes you may have at UK will be filled to the brim, 500 students or more, the professors and TA's never fail to assist when you need it... Read More (you just have to ask for help!), and the amount of resources on campus are overwhelming. UK offers the Writing Center, the MATH center, the STUDY (a free tutoring center), the Johnson Center (one of the best gyms I've ever been to), the Student Clinic (free to all full-time students), transportation options on campus, and much more! I know this sounds like a cheesy commercial testimonial about the greatness that is UK, but this is coming directly from a student who has paid for a college education, and believes that she got what she has paid for.

The only complaint that I have concerning UK, and one that you will hear from many students, is the parking system on campus is not only very expensive, but extremely aggravating to say the least. However, once you learn the in's and out's you should be fine!

Finally, who doesn't love UK basketball season! Come support the Big Blue Nation, and experience life on UK's campus! You won't be disappointed!

So, coming out of a large high school many classmates wanted to attend colleges with small classrooms. I couldn't have cared either way and was just excited to attend UK. At first the class size was so large, up to 500, but now that I'm in my junior year theres only 12 maximum per class. A lot of the classes are in a new style in which you watch lectures outside of class and only come in for labs and tests.

This style deffinitely helped me through my Educational Law class. It didnt hurt that the... Read More professor was a practicing Education Lawyer as well. Overall, with the right skills and after a few bumps in the road I know I am going to leave UK with the ability to tackle whatever lies ahead.
