Is Trident at AIU Accredited?

Specifically, TUI is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, an institutional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Accreditation signifies that a school has undergone an extensive review of its financial practices to ensure they are sound and that its academic programs are rigorous and can deliver on promises to students. Additionally, many of Trident’s business degrees are programmatically accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
What Is Trident at AIU Known For?
TUI is known for its unique approach to distance learning: the EdActive learning model. EdActive helps students via case-based learning instead of a standardized testing model. TUI believes this approach allows students to develop strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills that they can apply directly in the real world.
Trident is also known for being a military-friendly school. It has over 22,000 military and veteran alumni. It also has a military outreach team dedicated to helping service members, veterans, and their families transition to college.
Does AIU Offer Laptops?
AIU does not offer laptops. However, you may be able to use financial aid to purchase a Chromebook. A student advisor can help you determine what’s available and what you may be eligible for.
Is Trident University International a For-profit School?
TUI is a for-profit school owned and operated by a private business or organization. A significant portion of the profits is returned to stakeholders and goes toward non-educational expenses. For-profit schools that exhibit fiduciary responsibility and provide quality academic programs, such as Trident AIU, may receive accreditation. These schools may not receive state or federal funding.
In contrast, a nonprofit school’s income is reinvested in its academic programs, and some money is funneled toward its operating costs. It also receives federal funding and grants to operate and help students finance college. To continue receiving these funds, a nonprofit school must hold accreditation.
What Are the Admission Requirements for Trident at AIU?
TUI's admission requirements are minimal compared to applying at many other colleges or universities. The school does not appear to require entrance exams and has an open admissions policy that accepts 100% of applicants.
Applying to TUI requires the following:
- Meeting with an admission advisor before completing your application
- Completing a free online application
- Submitting any high school transcripts or their equivalent
- Submitting any college or military transcripts, if applicable
Your admissions advisor can then help you enroll in your first course.

Absolutely pathetic and horrible school. The phd level chairs really don’t care about your progress. They just say make changes but are not specific on what types of changes can get the process moving along. The program chair obviously sides with the chairs and doesn’t bother listening to the students. Do yourself a favor and choose another institution to do you doctorate degree. They just don’t listen no matter how many times concerts are raised.

Stay away from this school. The doctoral program is bad. You have 3 different people telling you 3 different things. They ask questions about your writing as if they don’t have any background knowledge to comprehend. Most people understand what face to face interaction means.

Great learning experience and outstanding professors. Regionally accreditation. In my experience from 2014 to now, TUI understands that working adults have conflicting priorities and they must make accommodation's for those situations. I am active duty military, so finding time to complete my course work can be challenging. Even when I turn in assignments late, the point reduction is negligible as long as you are transparent with communicating these challenges with your professors up front. If you... Read More

Trident was purchased by American InterContinental University and thus they have become: Predatory, misleading and incompetent. Seriously consider your options, especially if you are affiliated with the military. Attend this school at your own peril.

DO NOT ATTEND THIS UNIVERSITY. I read other horror stories about this university and still chose to attend because of the increased JST credits they gave me, which was a terrible mistake. The degree is not worth the paper it is printed on, they are impossible to work with, and their "military friendly" tagline is an absolute lie. There are MANY other excellent options. PLEASE do not attend.

Trident like most other schools is simply guided self learning. The courses require alot of writing and you develop a great understanding of the material. Grading seemed to vary alot between professors, some were easy and some were very difficult. All professors were responsive and offered detailed feedback. Advisers and financial aid office were very open and helpful. Advisers will call you during courses just to check in and see how you are doing. I've been to several school including a top ranked... Don’t expect this to be easy, but the journey is worth it. You must be a good time manager and must be able to conduct your own research. TUI has a great curriculum and program. I am a “Triple Trident” and TUI gave me the ability to balance my work life and family life to attain a Ph.D. I will always be grateful to TUI.
