Chose this due to the "scholarship" award, was told several of MSN courses I had already would transfer in 8/18 but was not given the final decision until 1/26/2019 after already retaking several courses I already had, this was disheartening to say the... Read More least. The course work I had before was 10yrs old but was WORTH the time I spent, this program is 100% teaching yourself, ok, may 90% but most courses was 100% self-taught. I am now in a specialty tract with the same results. There are NO online or video lectures, I am reading 15 chapters a week, condensed a 16 wk course literally into 7 wks with discussion board postings that do nothing for my learning and actually take away from the time I need to teach myself the course content from the readings, there are only about 1% content covered in power points but no discussion or instructor review/commentary of the material on them. I've not gotten any feedback on my case studies, or discussion board postings or replies, and no correct answers on quizzes so I don't know what I am missing or not missing. I am not even sure they are reading the discussion board postings in the specialty track at all. If i had to do this over, I would NOT chose NKU! I feel unprepared for clinicals let alone the boards and practice.
The faculty and course content was appropriate. My problem was the system called Canvass. I reviewed the online Canvass tutorial but it was not helpful when it came to staying organized with the live program. Too much content was printed, the canvass... Read More view was cluttered and confusing to use. I am a hands on person and a little older than my cohorts and the online review was not helpful. Contacts to the IT department were not helpful either. Maybe more input from older students returning for their doctorate should be incorporated in next canvass update. When I say older I mean those 60 and older. I withdrew because canvass was a big change from blackboard. So for students who are not computer savvy take learning a new/different online system into consideration
It was a great program. I was able to complete most of my courses online, which allowed me to do my course work at night (I was working full time, too). Professors were nice, helpful, and knowledgeable.
