I decided to join the Communication program at King University with a slightly hesitant attitude. I wondered if it would really help me in my career. I am now preparing to walk away with a more concrete career path, understanding of my passions and a... Read More refined skillset. The Communication professors at King were attentive to every message I sent and were intentional in helping me apply my course work to my career. Dr. Sloan, the program director holds the tension well of being gracious, kind and supportive while at the same time challenging students to strive for academic excellence in all that they do. I am now working for a non-profit as a social media manager and marketing team member as a direct result of my time at King. The Communication program at King University exceeded my expectations.
I decided to return to college for the third attempt since High School in 1986. I started looking at online universities on the computer one day and a co-worker informed me of King University where her husband graduated. She advised me that King University... Read More is a wonderful university for adults that are working all the time and it has classes online which makes it easier for the adults working schedule. I informed her I would call and get some information regarding the university and if it can work with my schedule online. After I called, I was pleased with the online admissions person as she informed me what I need to do to get my transcripts from the other three colleges in Texas to see what courses would be able to transfer. After King University received my transcripts and all the paperwork was submitted. Once she sent everything to the board to be reviewed so I can be accepted. Throughout the process she kept me informed on the status of my enrollment and when I got accepted to the university, she then set up my classes for the whole degree program till graduation. She advised me, that I would have one class every five weeks till I graduate with my Associate degree. The online admissions person also informed me that every semester my new classes would automatically be set up and all I would have to do is to start my new class. I believe she was a God-sent because I always wanted to get my college degree and she made it so easy to accomplish. At the time, I was working two jobs and didn’t have the time to figure everything out to start college, working two jobs and having two children to take care of not including cleaning the house. I finally completed my Associate’s degree in May 2021 and as I walked across that stage with my three children in the audience clapping and cheering for their mother’s hard work and accomplishment of finally getting her college degree was rewarding and one of the proudest days of my life. After I received my Associate’s degree, I decided that I was not ready to retire, and I wanted more in my life. I decided to return for a second time to King University to continue with my Bachelor’s degree. I again called King University online admissions to see what my options were for my bachelor’s degree. I also called a few other universities in the area such as the University of Tennessee and ETSU to check their online program. Both universities did not have what I was looking for regarding my bachelor’s degree. I decided to continue at King University and major in Business Administration. I realize it will be a little more expensive as I asked about tuition and grants but in the long run, it is best for me and my schedule. I was ready to accept my classes and pay my fees for the semester when at the last minute I received an email from someone about the Communication program. They provided me with the required classes for my degree to review. After reviewing the classes, I decided to switch from Business Administration to Communication because I believe I am a great communicator and I am a people person as well, so I believe this is perfect for me. I have really enjoyed my classes so far and they have taught me several things about communicating with others and especially how to be a better negotiator. My professors are wonderful. They have continued to teach me things on the computer that I have forgotten throughout the years. At my age, I am not looking to climb the corporate ladder or be a CEO in the corporate world, I just wanted to continue my lifetime goal of obtaining my bachelor’s degree.
King University has been a great experience. It allowed me to work full time and still be able to get my homework done. I was naturally drawn to King as my husband graduated from the Business program a few years back. King has helped me learn what a memo... Read More is, helped me with my writing skills, and helped me gain more confidence within myself. All my teachers have been wonderful but the two most memorable are Dr. Sloan and Cora Young. Both have been great to work with as far as the student/teacher relationship goes. Even If I emailed them during the weekend, they were always so quick to answer. All my teachers provided feedback with compassion and understanding. I am now able to say I can speak in front of an audience, and video a speech without second-guessing myself. The first day of school feels like the last day is forever away but time really does go by so fast. I've used the writing lab twice, the first start of the COMM program and they were quick to respond and gave excellent tips for my papers. If you are thinking of King, don't hesitate to give them a call. My only complaint is, when you are in your last semester, it should be easier for students to have access to all their graded work so we aren't "hounding" the teachers.
