What Is Fort Hays State University Known For?

FHSU is best known for its online degree offerings, as the majority of the student body studies remotely. In fact, there are nearly double the amount of online students (6,604) compared to those who learn on campus (3,807). The National Center for Education Statistics shows that 36% of undergraduate students and 91% of graduate students are enrolled only in online programs.

At FHSU, there are more than 200 degrees and certificates that students can complete entirely online. Areas of study include health science, education, business, technology, and the arts.

What Are the Admission Requirements for FHSU?

FHSU accepts students on a rolling basis. This means the process is more flexible and allows applicants to apply to college at any time of year. Students must also complete the following steps:

  • Submit an online application.
  • Pay the $30 application fee.
  • First-year students applying for the first time must have at least one of the following: a minimum GPA of 2.25, an ACT composite score of 21, or a higher SAT score of 1060.
  • College entrance exams are optional if students meet the GPA requirements.
  • Submit high school or college transcripts.

Keep in mind, application requirements are slightly different for international, out-of-state, and graduate students.

First of all, I would like to state that FHSU is not a terrible school by any means, in fact, there are many redeeming qualities to this school. For example, both mentors I had were on top of it and even helped me graduate a semester early. I also have no complaints with the administrative departments. Not once did I have to wait an excessive amount of time to receive an answer to a question I might have, or trouble enrolling in courses. Even after I took a semester off I was able to jump back into... Read More

Blackboard sites always have errors. The professors are unkind. They don't have a desire for education, they just keep saying the same thing. It's very unkind to teach the course. I don't know how professors became professors, but I don't think they are qualified. It's a really crappy school.

I enjoyed the classes I took however, the guidance counselor I was assigned was very rude and unprofessional. She didn’t want to guide me in anything. She told me instead of depending on her for answers I should look it up. That is what I was initially doing but someone from the school emailed me and said I was taking the incorrect courses so they sent me her for answers. I asked her if there was anyone else I could talk to. She refused to let me speak to anyone else until I became impatient with... Read More

Went to the online BS in CS program for a second degree (first is in Biology from Kansas State). The program is super affordable, and while the learning is largely self-study/self-directed, the curriculum is solid. I was able to land an internship at Boeing and got a full time offer for this fall. If you're willing to work at it, and use other learning resources (APress books, YouTube, Kahn Academy) you'll do fine. If you expect your hand to be held, you're in for a rough ride. A lot of my classmates... Read More

Great online programs with dedicated instructors. Graduate level courses are not easy, demanding but manageable. Unfortunately, my adviser changed a few times but they were all helpful and reachable. It is definately a cost effective school with a good ROI.

I really enjoyed my time at FHSU. I decided to pursue my education through the virtual school. All of my classes were online. The professors were extremely understanding and the staff was helpful. Best of all, the tuition was extremely affordable. There are many different majors to choose from. I don't regret my time at FHSU, and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in a degree online.

I enjoyed my masters degree experience at Fort Hays State University. My classes mainly took place online, but there were a few classes that required us to meet for a weekend of hands on experience. The way the program is set up allowed students who lived further away to obtain their degree, and gain experience in the classroom with little inconvenience.

I am graduating with my BS in Information Networking and Telecommunications from FHSU this month. I have worked with five other online schools in my academic career before finding FHSU.

The Faculty and Staff were very helpful and even went out of there way to ensure that I graduated on schedule when there was an issue with a class I needed. As with any school you get what you put in and it depends on the professor.

I would recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a degree program online... Read More

I was very excited to attend this school. I am a stay at home mother with one more on the way in just a few weeks.

This school made it very hard to attend the school. Getting certain paper work in and no one returning my calls or emails. When I finally did get some one 3 weeks later they had an issue with some paper work but did not try to reach out to me. It was very unfortunate.
