FAQs About ECPI University Online
Does ECPI University Have 100% Online Degrees?
ECPI has 100% online degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Popular online bachelor's degrees include cybersecurity, healthcare administration, and mechanical engineering technology. Programs are accelerated, so you can earn an online bachelor's degree in less than three years or an online associate degree in less than two if you attend full time. Courses include simulations, virtual labs, and weekly synchronous (live) instruction.
Is ECPI University Considered a Real University or Community College?
According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), ECPI is considered a four-year institution (a "real" university) that also offers two-year degrees. However, it is not a community college due to its private, for-profit status.
ECPI is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, baccalaureate, master's and doctorate degrees, and certificates. This accreditation status means that ECPI is a legitimate school that can prove its financial practices are ethical and its academic programs are high quality. It also means that students can transfer credits from one accredited institution to another.
OnlineU only includes accredited online institutions on its site.
Is a Degree From ECPI University Worth It?
A degree from ECPI may be worth it if the experience meets your expectations and you get the education you need to succeed and meet your professional goals. Its online programs in several in-demand fields provide convenience and scheduling flexibility, especially if you balance multiple obligations. You may also be able to graduate faster than your peers at other colleges and universities.
However, it's important to note that ECPI has relatively low Salary Scores. OnlineU's proprietary Salary Score ranks colleges by how much their alumni earn compared to graduates with the same degree from across the country. For example, ECPI has a salary score of only 26 (out of 100) for its bachelor's degrees and 16 for its master's. If you have high salary expectations and plan on incurring some student debt, attending ECPI may not be worth it, depending on your major.
What Is ECPI University Known For?
ECPI is known for its forward-thinking approach to education based on market needs. Founded in 1966, it was one of the first schools to offer computer programming classes as demand began to grow. Over the years, ECPI's curriculum has expanded to include degrees in engineering technology, health science, nursing, business, and criminal justice at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It now operates satellite campuses in North and South Carolina, Florida, and Texas, as well as at its original Virginia Beach site.
Which Degrees at ECPI University Provide the Highest Earnings for Graduates?
ECPI's online bachelor's degrees in nursing and computer technology, such as computer programming and engineering, provide the highest earnings. Graduates earn annual median salaries of approximately $73,300, $60,200, and $58,400, respectively.
What Are the Admission Requirements for ECPI University?
ECPI's admission requirements are unclear on its website. You must first call to schedule an admission advising appointment to start applying to college. However, ECPI does not require entrance exams, which may be very appealing to some applicants.

All of the classes were cookie-cutter curriculums that were taken straight from other schools. Nothing was unique to the college and you could find all of the classes on course hero Etc. Professors complain that they only had six weeks to teach classes that they weren’t qualified to teach or had no previous experience with such as the AI and coding classes. The externship that I was given was a helpdesk externship, which provided no cyber security experience. The school also doesn’t seem to have... Read More

During my time here at ECPI University I have grown so much . The flexibility of scheduling and the small class size so you can actually have a one on one with your professor’s helped me a lot as well . Everything that I learned during school I am currently using in the field as I landed a job in my field of study.

ECPI was a great experience during both of my times there in 1999 and recently in 2022. Most of the instructors were knowledgeable and helpful. The curriculum was focused on the field I desire to be in and I hope to start working in soon. I also met a lot of great people along the way. I would definitely recommend ECPI, if someone wants to get a degree concentrated in a specific IT field.

Degree: Business Administration
I studied for the business administration: accounting bachelor's degree with the online campus. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at ECPI and was constantly challenged. I waited until graduation to give a review because I have seen so much negativity surrounding its viability to get a job. I got my first accounting job after applying to positions for about a month. Which is pretty normal since they wait for applicants to apply anyway. I had three interviews and got offers on all of them. I started work... Read More

Don’t attend this school unless you have a lot of money and time to burn through. I have been at this school since February 2022 and worked hard to maintain a A - B average. But when you have some instructors who clearly are there to make easy money because they don’t have to show up to a actual classroom and use outdated videos that are not in sync with what you are currently doing then it becomes a major problem. Not only that but there are some instructors there who don’t even try to answer questions... Read More

Starting out at this school, I was so excited to get into nursing; an accelerated program at that. I passed my TEAS tests and was ready to go. When I started, I knew it would be stressful; I mean it's an accelerated nursing program, BUT I didn't think the instructors and staff would make it even harder to get through. If you went to talk to the DON, she always belittled you, made smart remarks, and just simply did not care. Halfway through 2 of my classes, I've had professors leave (because they... Read More

I am taking online courses and a lot of the professors don't teach! We have to read different chapters every week which is fine but when we have zoom meeting which is our weekly lecture, they literally read everything we read in the books from a power point. That's not teaching. A lecture is not reading from slides. I got most of my education from YouTube. I really self taught myself a lot of the material without the help of most professors.

ALL MILITARY VETS!!! STAY AWAY!!! This school has used my gi bill and lied about attendance. The courses are 5 weeks long, I completed all work assigned by 3.5 weeks in, then I was kicked out of school at the start of the next quarter for inactivity... literally received an 87.48 grade for the class, but was kicked out for being inactive and not given a more logical answer. Stay far away from ECPI and NEVER sign up for this school. I will be hiring an attorney and will do my best to get their accreditation... Read More

If you are going into the IT field I would highly suggest to find the requirements for the job your are seeking. Many jobs in the IT field do not require a degree, a certification will get you much further in the field than a degree ever will. You can find many of the same free study guides and videos ECPI uses on youtube and google. If you would like to spend 60k to obtain a job making 15-16 an hour then this place is for you. If college is what you seek, find a college that will provide you with... Read More
