FAQs About California Baptist University

Is California Baptist University Online?

Yes, CBU is an online school and offers over 40 degrees that students can complete 100% remotely. However, it's only authorized to offer distance education in 37 states. Its online programs provide scheduling flexibility so students can continue working at a full- or part-time pace.

Classes start every eight weeks, and three semesters are offered each year so students can finish faster than their peers in traditional schools and programs. Online bachelor's degrees include graphic design and digital media, Christian ministries, cybersecurity, kinesiology, healthcare administration and management, and many others.

Is California Baptist University Respected by Employers?

Employers respect CBU's online degrees because of the school's favorable accreditation status. CBU is accredited by WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).

Accreditation means that CBU has sound and ethical accounting practices and its academic programs are of high quality. Its online programs rival those offered on campus, providing the same instruction, rigor, and outcomes.

To provide online schools you can trust, OnlineU only includes accredited institutions on its site.

It's also helpful to keep in mind that transcripts and diplomas generally don't state whether degrees are completed remotely, so you don't have to disclose this information to prospective employers if you don't want to.

What Is CBU Known For?

CBU is known for being one of California's best private Christian colleges and universities. Its entire faculty and staff practice the Christian faith and work to provide students with a Christ-centered educational experience. CBU integrates Christian spiritual beliefs into its academic programs and social development opportunities. It expects its students to be able to demonstrate spiritual literacy and Baptist perspectives and actively practice their faith.

Students are generally required to complete a minimum of 9 credits in Christian-based studies as part of their general education requirements. Considering this, CBU has very conservative values that may not be for everyone.

Which Degrees at CBU Provide the Highest Earnings for Graduates?

CBU's registered nursing and mechanical and civil engineering degrees provide the highest earnings. Graduates earn median annual salaries of approximately $89,200, $76,700, and $76,600, respectively. While these degrees are not available online, a bachelor's degree in accounting is 100% online and yields approximately $61,500.

OnlineU's proprietary Salary Score ranks colleges by how much their alumni earn compared to graduates with the same degree from across the country. CBU has a bachelor's degree Salary Score of 60 out of 100, and it scores 65 for its master's degree programs.

How Difficult Is It To Get Into CBU?

Getting into CBU is not very difficult: It accepts 80% of applicants.

However, enrolling requires submitting entrance exams for first-year students transferring less than 24 previously earned credits. Admitted students generally have combined SAT scores between 960 and 1150 and ACT scores between 18 and 25. Honors upon entrance are granted for students with SAT scores of 990 and 19 for the ACT.

What Are the Admission Requirements for CBU?

CBU's admission requirements for first-year students must include the following:

  • An application
  • A $45 application fee
  • Official high school transcripts or GED scores
  • A minimum 2.5 GPA
  • A minimum 920 SAT composite score or 18 on the ACT
  • Official college transcripts, if transferring credits
  • Military transcripts, if applicable

Enrolling in college takes some time and planning. Meeting with an enrollment advisor early is always a good idea to ensure you understand all the requirements. They can also let you know if your program has additional requirements.

I'm surprised at some of long-winded, ranting, negative reviews. I've had an amazing experience being a student with the CBU Online Master's program. Let me tell you, just because it is online it is NOT easy. In fact, I'm pretty sure they make it insanely hard because they're making up for the fact that you're not sitting in a classroom 15 hours a week. There is a LOT of homework. The teachers really do care and want you to learn. The most challenging aspect - aside from trying to work full-time... Read More

I thoroughly enjoyed the course content provided by this school. The quality of the instruction was excellent. The instructors were very communicative, responsive, and helpful. Having attended California Baptist University after attending a public community college, I was very pleased with the quality of instruction being offered by California Baptist University, exceeding the quality of the public community college immensely.

Personally, I feel like choosing to attend CBU was the worst mistake of my life. The financial aid department is not helpful in the least and you can never get in contact with your advisors. It is way too expensive for the quality of the education. The bible courses primarily use study bibles. They pride themselves as being a Christian based school, but they don't even use the Bible. Many people enjoy their experience at CBU, but I am not and I am going to transfer. Maybe life on campus is better,... Read More

The CBU Online program was very hands on, and the professors really seemed to care about me as a student, and were supportive and helpful throughout my education. I loved that the schedule was flexible enough for me to still have a job while I attended.

I really love the atmoshere of the school. The professors are always willing to help. Students are also very friendly and the campus is not too big and you can find classes pretty easy.
