Xavier University

It's not a horrible school. I participated in the accelerated BSN program offered. The program is a few years old, but the staff behaves like it is brand new. There are a lot of inconsistencies, and the higher level staff there do not appear to care much about the students. There are some wonderful and very helpful professors and clinical instructors, but there are some that are a miss. They advertise the program for working adults, but there is very little time for individuals to work around school and family or home life. They pick your clinical days for you, you do not get the opportunity to make any adjustments based on family. When clinicals were online due to COVID, some of the instructors took points off of students for managing their children, however those instructors would stop to manage their own children or animals. All and all it was expensive, private loans, and the staff was hit and miss on their ability to educate adequately. Students were treated more like children, and less like adults.

The program was a direct entry nursing program and professors did an excellent job preparing students for the real world of nursing practice. From the first semester, students were required to attend clinicals at different health care organnizations, in and around the city of Cincinnati. Due to the fact that the program was Master's level, leadership was emphasized in both didactic and practical aspects of course work. Great school for education, but not socially. I came in pursuing a degree in biomedical sciences with a dream of medical school. That changed multiple times, but the school was supportive throughout. I actually decided to transfer closer to home and for a graduate program I thought would better fit my needs. The merit scholarship awarded is very considerate and helped immensely with the cost of education I did come for the well rounded education, but the amount of "flags" and certain requirements... I finished my bachelor's degree at St. Xavier University and the small class size was the best feature of the school. The largest class size I had was about 30 students. In the upper level classes, 15-20 students was the norm. The classes are also taught by actual professors, not TAs. I majored in History, and currently work in an unrelated field, so my degree did not influence my earning potential. However, I did find the academics at St. Xavier to be excellent and I will be going back in the Spring... Read More to start their MBA program.

The Master's Program for School Counseling at Xavier University compares to none in Ohio. The program is manageable as the courses are in the evenings and sometimes on the weekends. The times of the classes allow graduate students to have a full time job outside of school. The director of the program, as well as the professors, are very passionate about the Counseling profession and are always available to meet with students.
