Western Carolina University is a wonderful school on the small side in the mountains of western North Carolina. I love the beautiful area and the surrounding nature. The campus is very safe and inclusive of everyone. Student life is very active, and there are always new activities going on to meet new people.

Western Carolina University was a great school to attend for my undergraduate degree. I was unsure of what I wanted to pursue when I began, but after working with my advisor for a few semesters we finally were able to come up with the perfect plan for me. The pandemic hit my senior year, but the school handled the situation to the best of their ability and I was able to graduate within my estimated time

I had a great experience at Western! I had top rated professors and a valuable education during my time here. There is lots of ways for students to be involved in different clubs and activities. Although it is a school in the "middle of nowhere" as many say, there is plenty to do in surrounding areas. If you like to hike, there are hikes around and if you want to shop, Asheville is an hour away. I loved my time at WCU and would recommend to anyone!

A great environment located in the middle of Western North Carolina, if you're outdoorsy and enjoy a good hike then your days will be filled with excitement! A lot of good teachers who will put time into making sure you are on the right path. There are a few I had who would rely a lot on copying online materials for testing, others who don't fully support their students into making sure they understand their expectations. Overall a good school that offers plenty of programs to meet many students... Read More

Degree: Mechanical Engineering

Western is a great school for engineering in my opinion. The issues I have with the college are the decisions it has made. In 2023 WCU accepted 500+ incoming students in the fall semester. All dining options on campus are a 30+ minute wait, and most of the time they are run out of half the items on the menu. Being a busy student with 17 credit hours, eating during the day is almost impossible under these conditions. I do not encourage coming to this school, for my sake and yours. And if anyone from... The English Department at Western Carolina University is comprised of nationally acclaimed professors. They provide classes that are relevant and interesting. During my undergraduate career I took a mixture of professional writing courses, literature courses, and creative writing courses. Each professor expects your best work and are willing to work with you to achieve that. They are available during office hours and are largely approachable. You will create lasting personal and professional relationships... Read More

I absolutely loved my years in college. There are times when I wish I could go back to those years. Life was simple. I was in school full, and worked two part time jobs, and it felt like I had all the time in the world. Yes, school was difficult, but definitely rewarding.

Overall, I am very happy with my choice to attend Western Carolina University's Graduate School. The professors are always willing to help out and willing to listen to feedback from the students about the program. The campus is beautiful year round and has a lot of opportunities for students to get involved.

Western Carolina was such an amazing school to attend. Being from the area I already felt safe and welcomed. Attaining my biology degree there lead me to where I am now. I will be attending Life University to be a chiropractor! I'm so thrilled to start this journey of my life and I really hope that I will be able to make a difference in people's lives with what I am doing. I really hope that I am able to heal people as well as help heal this nation.

Absolutely loved everything about the university and would never expect to have had as much joy at any other university. The instructors in the program were top notch with real world experience and consistently made us think outside our comfort zone. The internship was by far one of the biggest learning times as it made you prepared for what life was like after college.

Western has a great education program! I loved the small class sizes and building strong relationships with the faculty. The College of Education also offered lots of merit-based scholarships to students, which was great. Most of the faculty is really knowledgeable and experienced.

I was a distance education student. Found the program to be easy to facilitate virtually. Both synchronous and asynchronous courses were offered so you didn't feel like you were on an island by yourself studying.

I enjoyed the college overall and the learning environment was beautiful and stimulating. The setting is humbling and allows one to focus on their studies. However, I just wish there was a serious conversation about possible directions in employment. As a first generation college graduate , a little more information on navigating the employment fields would have been helpful. Maybe, the school could use more network with potential employers. Western Carolina University is a good school to start your undergraduate career in chemistry. The faculty are helpful and there is a 1:10 ratio of professors to students when you get to higher levels of study. This allows more one on one time if you need help with understanding difficult material.

WCU is a great school if you're self driven and not easily distracted. A lot of students there are, honestly, fairly lazy, and it's easy to get dragged down if you can't focus yourself. The classes are high quality, the teachers are great (and are reprimanded when they're not). The campus is beautiful and easy to get around, though watch out for ice and slush in the winter.
