Wayland Baptist University

The school itself is great, but the nursing program is very unorganized. You are left with teaching yourself the entire program. Turnover rate for students and instructors are very high so there is no steady pace, tests are okay but when an instructor makes up questions (we know because of typos) they don’t make sense and then when you challenge the question, they get upset with you and make you look like you are in the wrong. A lot of money wasted and that this school should not have a nursing program.

I cannot express the disappointment with the quality of the teachers. I had previous nursing knowledge, and that is what helped me with my classes. I felt awful for the students who had no prior nursing knowledge. They were left to learn on their own. There is no teaching at this school. One of the teachers left for Germany on the second week of starting and did not come back to teach our class. We had several replacement teachers every two weeks to cover that class. Wayland Baptist University was a great experience for me. The classes were well presented by the instructors and the fellow students were fantastic. This university offers a refreshing Christian perspective that was applied to the secular science of Psychology and the art of Counseling. Class sizes are small, which allows for deeper discussion, learning, and application. This school is not Military Friendly. I believe they cost way to much. They have fees for online exams and everything. It so many extra cost on this school. Unlike AMU where if you go to training the teacher can wait for you to come back where you can pick up where you left off. This school give you an incomplete and you have to wait unit the next term to complete your class. A total waste of time. I attended this school's nursing program and graduated. I could write a book on why you should go elsewhere for nursing. My core classes were awesome but this nursing program is messed up. Unprofessional professors who are constantly late, blatantly playing favorites with students. No continuity between professors who are teaching the same course at the same time. Wayland Baptist University (WBU) is a diverse school with multiple campuses around the nation, and even one in Africa. I found that the smaller classroom instruction inside the satellite campus was great! At the time, it was 2007/2008 when I was taking the bulk of my courses at the Sierra Vista/AZ campus, but my instructors (approx. 1 instructor to no more than 20 students) were very knowledgeable about the material they taught. WBU strives to educate students in a challenging environment with a focus on Christian stewardship, and they do it well. As a Christian, I find myself happy with the coursework and I do not think the school shoves Christianity down anyone's throat. Unless things have changed drastically, you will still be expected to learn Old and New Testament as part of the curriculum requirements for graduation, but it is expected everyone will gain that knowledge and should not be surprised by that while attending a Christian university. Though I will tell you, this is NOT a party school. WBU is designed for adult student learners that are busy professionals, younger students, military members, and just about anyone who is serious about studying, learning and growing in their education walk. Their campus at Sierra Vista, Arizona is nice and well maintained, small, and does not have dormitories. WBU also has an office extension on Fort Huachuca for military members, contractors, or government employees to take their coursework. One of the best things to remember is that WBU works with local colleges and universities to accept and translate experiential professional development. This means that if you were in a technical field in the military, you could earn some credits based on that experience. Lastly, I am finishing out my Master's degree at WBU Online and I find the coursework challenging, rewarding, realistic and the professors are professional and knowledgeable as well. I have nothing but great things to say about Wayland Baptist University(WBU)! Definitely a military friendly school! I happily recommend this school to friends and family. Working full time, being a military member and a single parent is a very busy life. But the WBU staff were very understanding and gladly worked with me incase I needed a little time on assignments. I found Wayland Baptist University to be the ideal fit for me as a non-traditional student. As a single parent working full time I had very little time left for myself. Having the option to take online classes allowed me the flexibility to pursue my degree without taking time away from my children while dashing across town to be in time for class. Not only did I earn a degree but I learned theories and skills that I was able to apply to real life situations. I attended Wayland Baptist University which was located at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. It was my pursuit of my goal to reach the first benchmark which was my Bachelor degree after being combat wounded in Afghanistan in which I did not believe I would be able to finish school with my disabilities. I decided to enlist into the Active Duty Infantry with the 101st Airborne to serve my country which I am proud and honored. Though it is bittersweet that the war ended up causing the sacrifice of my friends and I ended up being 100 percent disabled physically and suffered severe TBI and had to bring my service dog to classes with me which was interesting. Colleges are more accepting of diversity and life changes that people have to overcome.
