University of Wisconsin - River Falls

I was a non-traditional student when I attended the University of Wisconsin at River Falls for my Bachelor's Degree. I found the school to be amazing for both traditional and non-traditional students. There are so many offerings for clubs, tutors, services, food, extraordinary professors, and programs. I found that the professors were ALL there to help you. I cannot say enough about the school, campus, and the community of River Falls on a whole. In the town, there is a small river called The Kinni.... Read More This river provides for a serene place to watch nature, kayak, and enjoy. I highly recommend this campus to anyone beginning, in the middle, or finishing their collegiate career.

I loved River Falls for many reasons. I loved the campus, the size of the school, the people and supports the school offers. UWRF has a lot to offer, including a lot of opportunities to explore and grow. The size of the school really helps you to get to know other students and professors. I enjoyed most of the professors and felt that they were knowledgable and truly cared about my success. My degree program was well established, but I didn't completely feel career ready at the time of graduation.... Read More This was mainly because I was not sure what exactly I was going to do with my degree. A true testament to the school is that I am going back to pursue my graduate degree!

UWRF and the faculty helped me get to where I am today. Without the support, I would not have graduated, or gone on to seek a higher degree, I am here because of them. This program will push you, but it will also engage you in the most enjoyable experiences you could think of. Being in this program, you are able to go into classrooms as a freshman, and really get a feel for the field. If you didn't grow up in FFA or 4-H, it doesn't matter. I loved attending the University of Wisconsin- River Falls. The sense of community is great at this college. I changed my major multiple times, each time a advisor was waiting to help me discuss my options. I finally settled on getting my Animal Science degree, which was great. The hands on experience was unmatched by all other colleges I toured. I learned not only from my professors but from other students, clubs and trips. Student activities are great. The cafeteria always had a great selections,... Read More the student center offered more than you needed and the library was open late to squeeze in some late minute studying. Professors gave their blood, sweat and tears into these students and it showed by the great reaction I get when telling people that I attended the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. The best part about the University of Wisconsin- River Falls was the Lab Farms. Growing up in the cities this was a great way for me to gain hands on experience. I was able to work on my riding skills with the horse, learn more about dairy cows, pigs and sheep. This was the part of my education that came in handy working on difference farms after graduation. Another highlight from my school time at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls was the clubs and lasting friendship that I made. I am able to network and bound over our education. The only thing that disliked about this college was the fact that most of the population left on the weekends. Leaving it pretty dead on campus.

I applied to three undergraduate programs and chose River Falls due to the size of the university and location. It's close enough to the Twin Cities to really be considered a suburb, but far enough to feel some independence. I initially started in the elementary education program and quickly switch to social work after learning about it from a school social worker in an elementary school. Field instruction was a large component of the program, along with a rigorous research project, designed to help students in their graduate studies.

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF), has a fantastic Education program. Not only do they take the time to help you to understand each subject in depth, they have professors who are extremely knowledgeable about the subjects that they teach. The program is designed to help students receive their teaching degree in approximately 4.5 years with the last half of the year as a student teaching experience. As a freshman, students begin to take classes in the Elementary program which I believe... Read More sets them apart from others. By the time students reach their junior or senior year, they enter into the "block program". In this program, students will be in cohorts with students who are also pursuing an Elementary Education degree. The first semester, students have 3 classes which they rotate through throughout the week. Half way through the semester, students will become a "pre-student teacher" and will be placed into an elementary classroom for 3 days a week for the rest of the semester. During this time, students plan and teach lessons to students in a suburban area. The process repeats in the second semester however students will be placed in a urban area and will have 3 different subjects to learn about. After this full year of pre-student teaching, students will be placed in a school which they will teach in for 18 weeks. Typically during the 18 weeks, students will graduate, complete the EdTPA (Education Teacher Performance Assessment), and build connections with their teacher. At the end, students will apply for their license and will have completed the program.

The university of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) is a wonderful place to live, work, and, most importantly, learn. Graduating from the Education program, I spent four years living on campus and immersing myself in the school community. There are a variety of clubs, activities, and sports in which a student can participate. I particularly enjoyed the intramural broom-ball league. Finding a job that puts you in the center of the school community is easy; there are jobs ranging from working in the library... Read More to the front desk in the University Center. As a former student manager and tutor of the Writing Center, I also have to recommend tutoring services. The tutoring centers are beneficial for working through tough assignments and achieving academic goals. My favorite part about UWRF is that the class sizes are small enough that I was able to build relationships with my peers and my professors. Those relationships are crucial for success, whether it's a study group for the next big exam, networking, or seeking guidance. The professors in the English and Education departments helped me understand my field of study and gain the skills and confidence I needed to secure the teaching job that I have now. UWRF impacted who I am today, and I am forever grateful for pursuing my education at this university.

I found the choice of classes for gen eds to be a good variety, so I could choose things that truly interested me, not just a class to do in order to graduate. The campus was lovely--green space and trees, not just buildings and sidewalks. The campus and University Center had a nice atmosphere, whether you were just visiting or going for a meal. All the professors I had while there were knowledgeable, approachable, and enthusiastic about their classes, which really helps--when the professor is excited... Read More to teach, it makes it easier to get excited to learn; plus, being approachable makes it easy to go to them for help.

UW-River Falls is all-in-all a great school. The class sizes are small, and it is not a research-based school; basically, the professors are there to share with you their passion and expertise. Being on campus was a fantastic experience, but the semester abroad program was even more phenomenal. UWRF offers a completely independent research program at the undergrad level in Europe--Semester Abroad:Europe-- you choose the place, set up lodging and research sites, work closely with your advisor, and... Read More create a 40-60 page paper on your findings. I have never learned as much as I did in those three months in my entire life- about myself and about the world.

The Montessori Education Program at the University of Wisconsin River falls is top notch. The professors are very experienced in their fields and they provide challenging coursework. The professors are also available for questions and concerns. I honestly believe that this program is so excellent because of the amazing professors.
