UMass Amherst was an amazing school! Some people may feel intimidated by the size, but I found that it allowed for much more niche communities within the student population which made making friends really easy. I also had a really good experience with all of the professors and still keep in contact with some of them.

UMass has an amazing culture that is not replicated at many schools. The interactions you have with professors & other students makes you eager to learn more. The dining halls have superb food and a great variation every day. The town itself is gorgeous and has tons of little niche stores where you can find unique items. The location is perfect - there are buses directly to Boston, only an hour and a half away, you can visit New York City for the weekend, or head to Vermont or CT easily.

The faculty are outstanding, representing cutting edge and important research in the discipline, and some are highly supportive of graduate students. There is a strong emphasis on Media Studies and an emerging emphasis on Rhetoric and Performance Studies. I also connected with and found support from faculty in the Education, Anthropology, Sociology, and Spanish departments.
