I attended University of Kentucky in order to complete my bachelors degree after several years out of school. I attended my classes online and it was an okay experience. The professors make it difficult to build a relationship through online learning, and after graduating I don't feel as though any of what I learned can be used in the real world. As a History BA graduate from the University of Kentucky in 2010, I have pretty mixed feelings when I look back. On one hand, I got a strong education. The professors in the history department were knowledgeable and clearly cared about what they were teaching. They pushed me to think more deeply, write better, and actually engage with historical sources instead of just memorizing facts. Outside the classroom, I had a good experience too. Campus life was active, and it was easy to meet people and get involved. I grew a lot during those years, both academically and personally, and I do value that part of my time at UK.

Where my feelings get complicated is the cost. Looking back, I am not sure it was worth what I paid. I took on a fair amount of debt, and over time that has become harder to ignore. While I believe I got a quality education, I do not know that it translated into enough financial return to justify the price, especially with a history degree.

I still use the skills I learned. Research, writing, and critical thinking have all stuck with me. But if I could go back, I would spend more time thinking about cost and exploring more affordable options.

Overall, I do not regret going to UK, but I do question whether the expense made sense in the long run.

The University of Kentucky Von Allmen School of Accountancy did a fantastic job at preparing me for the CPA exams and my career in accounting. The quality of professors was very high and they had our best interests in mind to prepare us for our careers. My professors were great mentors and came from various backgrounds - public accounting, careers in industry, former/current CPAs, etc. I got a lot out of my education and would recommend it to anyone. My experience in UK's College of Social Work was a great one. I was a non-traditional student, as was a large percentage of my cohort, but never felt out of place. The college staff were always pleasant and helpful, taking time to meet outside of class hours if needed. (Pro-tip, they are a great networking buddy in the field!) My time at UK was valuable for shaping me into who I am today. At the same time, I really could have fallen through the cracks going here were it not for my own drive and character. I played club hockey and studied physics in my four years here. The busy schedule I created for myself strained me and pushed my time management skills to their maximum. There are some good professors at UK and a few great ones. I would say an exception is if you are in mathematics or engineering and end up with one of the foreign professors there for research and are seemingly forced to teach a class; good luck understanding what they are saying. I attempted MA 109 three times and quit each time because the professor couldn't speak english. UK really needs better career counselors. My experience in the University of Kentucky (especially in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program) was excellent. The professors were well versed, encouraging and could always be called upon to help the students in learning complicated medical matters. The program offered quality academics together with practical clinical practice that made me highly prepared in my career. The Online Graduate Program for a Masters in Arts Administration is not a particularly robust or thorough program. Much of the content is outdated and the classes generally lack academic rigor. It is a relatively affordable program, so if you are a working professional who just needs the degree to move to the next level professionally, this might be the program for you. During my undergrad years, I went to the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, which is located in Northeast part of the state. I really enjoyed attending the University of Kentucky. There was a recruiter that came to my area of Kentucky, the Southwest near Tennessee, and explained the opportunities at the college. He also spoke of the programs that supported people of color and that would make my college entrance easier. My family really like all of the ideas that he had shared and we decided that this university would be the best fit for me. Following his advice, I enrolled in a Freshmen Summer Program for scholars of color before the start of Freshmen classes. This program allowed me to connect with scholars of similar backgrounds (i.e. feel like I belonged) and to complete two challenging classes, Algebra and African American Literature, which helped me feel more prepared for college. My journey throughout college only continued to get better in regards to feeling like I mattered and that I could succeed. I was able to connect with professors during their office hours or via email; I was able to go to homework or classroom support center if I needed additional support; and I was able to have a voice on campus through various student groups. Even though I was an introvert, several individuals reached out to me and encouraged me to be a student leader. I joined a community engagement program, a student leadership program, a diversity group, and an anti-violence group. I felt very connected throughout my time at the University of Kentucky and am still in touch with many people from the school. I definitely recommend the University of Kentucky for scholars. The living quarters, resources, scholarship, student engagement, and learning opportunities are all phenomenal.
