I only attended the University of Houston for two years because I got my Associate's Degree at a community college before transferring. I took online classes during my time there and for the most part, I had professors who were good at their job. I even had one professor (who was really good at his job) inspire me to take up a minor in supply chain management due to his teaching skills, great communication, and presentation skills. Unfortunately, as with any college, there were some classes that... Read More

I feel that this school was a great experience as a student athlete. However, I felt that male student athletes got significant advantages in academics which gave them an unfair leg up. Otherwise the quality of my education was decent, class sizes weren’t too large, faculty seemed to care about the outcomes of their students.

The professors are industry professionals, however it was more theory than application. Some of the coursework is outdated because the school does not want to invest in better coursework. The professors are very knowledgeable and passionate about their field.

I transferred to University of Houston in 2014 from Texas A&M University and wish I started off at University of Houston. Aside from our president being a total boss, I really valued the sense of community, opportunities and student life. Anytime I was on campus, it was truly exciting with organizations connecting with you and a variety of activities you can participate in. At the time, most of the students I meant were all social and nice. My major included classes that connected us to businesses... Read More

Great classes and educators, excellent diversity, and lots of connections for internships. The campus is large and has excellent facilities. Students are all kind and down to earth. My only complaints are that the surrounding area is not safe and the school lacks a sense of community. However, that is hard to avoid on a campus where many people commute.

My experience at the University of Houston as an undergraduate in the Creative Writing department was fantastic. The professors were knowledgeable, engaging, and fair. The campus was well organized and efficient. The class selection was varied and interesting.

UH grading system and classes are unnecessarily difficult. Some classes with all professors are nearly impossible to pass. The social environment is okay, but the school is mostly designed as a hybrid school. Considering that the school is not some ivy league but the grading system and difficulty seems to be on par with that. Avoid if you can. If not, then carefully choose your classes and always check rate my professor.

University of Houston provided an environment for me to become an adult. Scheduling your own classes and being accountable for yourself was a great experience in my life that University of Houston provided. Apart from that classes were fun and engaging. Professors and interns are willing to help you succeed. Tutoring and other options for help were made available at the university of Houston. WHO'S HOUSE!!!!

My experience at the university of Houston was generally positive. The lecturers were knowledgeable and supportive, and they encouraged participation which made learning engaging. I liked the variety of courses offered and the opportunity to develop both academic and personal skills. The campus environment was friendly and diverse, which helped me build confidence and meet new people. However, some facilities and administrative processes could be improved for better efficiency. Overall, the college... Read More

The University of Houston's tuition value is difficult to beat, especially for students prioritizing a high return on investment. For the price I was paying, the quality of the education and professional opportunities were well worth it. All the professors I took often brought in real-world experience into the classroom. The networking events are top-tier. While the commuter-heavy nature of the school can make the social scene feel a bit siloed at times, the constant campus improvements make it an... Read More

UH has a beautiful campus and lots of activity. Unfortunately, the social sciences didn't seem to have the resources that other departments had or the attention of administration. Only 1 or 2 faculty seemed to have any active research grants or currently publishing. My understanding is things haven't changed much since then.

As a graduate student I have been pretty satisfied with my experience at UH. Our program is quite small, so it is nice to have opportunities to form a community with my classmates. Our faculty are also very supported and well-established researchers themselves and are always willing and able to provide guidance.

University of Houston is a great school for STEM and business. There is a lot of opportunities for academic advancement such as tutoring and clubs to partake in. Students are neutral, not mean or nice. However, I would not recommend this school due to unsafe the campus is.

I think the students and community is great. Location is fine. Programs are great. Overall too expensive for what it is. A lot of crime on campus. A lot of run down buildings and equipment. Don't regret going though had a lot of fun and learned a lot about my field of study. I got along with the professors and other students well.

Degree: Communications (Public Relations)

I started attending the University of Houston as an Accounting Major in the Baur School of Business. Because Houston is one of the country's main business hubs, there is a lot of funding and attention given. The building was new, the teachers were very involved, companies had established relationships with the school and attended many events, and opportunities for internships, jobs, office visits, etc. were endless. Even the guidance counselors were very knowledgeable, proactive, and helpful.

When I switched to the Communications school to major in Public Relations two years later, I felt like I was shoved into a kiddie pool. The classes were offensively simple, I saw basically no promotion of student organizations, events, or job opportunities. I essentially took the exact same class three times from the same teacher, all with different titles and descriptions. They were supposed to be advertising classes, but the teacher almost exclusively used cheesy commercials from the early 2000s and vintage printed ads. I was shocked, but at the time I was somewhat glad to atleast have something easy in my plate. After graduating, I felt kind of ripped off.

Other than that, it's a primarily commuter campus, but parking was limited, expensive, and the parking pass process was confusing every semester, and most of the lots had massive puddles everywhere.
The financial aid office also wasn't helpful.

I think a majority of my positive opinions about UofH are directly related to the business school.

My experience at school was mostly positive. The classes were challenging but manageable and I believe I learned skills that were actually useful beyond just passing exams. Some professors were more engaging than others, but the ones that really cared about students were willing to help outside of class. The workload could sometimes be stressful especially near finals, but it helped prepare me for the future. While there were definitely some areas that could be improved, I feel the education I received... Read More

The University of Houston provided a good learning environment as well as great extracurriculars. However, my only issue when I attended the school was the quality of the courses; some professors did not care at all and just read their lectures off of their powerpoint presentations.

Do not attend this school. Typically, black and white statements are not helpful. However, there are little to no redeeming qualities about this school. This school does not care about the students. There are some professors who care about the students, and it is astounding the difference between how these professors treat the students and the overall attitude of this school. After the first week of school, walking to classes seems off. No one actually seems to care about each other. Everyone attending... Read More

Instructors don’t reply to your emails. They have TAs who will reply so late but not solve the problem. Instructors don’t care if your grade is dropping because you don’t understand the assignments, or because they have insufficient information which is misleading in the syllabus. One assignment can drop your grade so much because of percentage distribution. The administration doesn’t answer the call and when they do, they don’t know how to help you.
