I went in the evenings as I worked full time during the day. For a working mother, it was convenient. The content of the courses in my major was redundant however, and the degree seemed to be 'fluff.' I also took off campus classes and still had to pay full tuition, which was ridiculous because we had none of the amenities campus offered. We didn't even have wi-fi!

I think that The University of Akron has a great MBA program. The faculty is experienced and majority of the classes have offered valuable learning outcomes. The only down side to the program is that some courses are poorly structured and do not optimize the limited time the student has with the instructor. Some professors use the long class periods to tell stories--which can be valuable in moderation--however, often take up the entire time. Overall, the campus is nice and is reasonably priced. There... The college of nursing adequately prepared me to pass my NCLEX/boards. It is close to so many hopsitals for clinicals including a pediatric hospital. The program has advanced technology to aide in learning i.e. sim man for simulations.

I am pursuing my Master's of Social Work at The University of Akron. I enjoy the coursework and how personable the professors and faculty are in my course of study. Attending them for my undergraduate degree in social work as well, I already knew most of the nooks and crannies of the school by the time I got to the graduate program. It is an easy commute from my home everyday with minimal traffic delays and the campus is friendly. Sometimes the staff of the financial aid offices are too busy to tend... Read More

The University of Akron does a great job at funding their students. They have grants and community internships available to students to support their career goals. They have great connections with local schools and prepare you to work with children. One of the program disadvantages, they do not provide hospital experiences for individuals interested in swallowing disorders.

The University of Akron is one of the top ranked college for 'Polymer Engineering and Science' program. I am very happy to be here. The program has diversity in research labs from polymer and rubber processing to nanotechnology.

Pro- Well rounded classes the cover the entire scope of Arts Administration. Feel prepared to enter into the field. Great projects, classroom discussions, and guest speakers. Con- Advertised as evening classes but many of the times events and classes are held before 5pm. Not assisted much in the way of career services. No scholarships, financial aid (other than gov. loans) grants of any sort.

The small size of U of A's biology department was a major asset to myself and my classmates. Faculty, staff, and students were all eager to lend a hand and there was a lot of emphasis on integrative learning and research. The nice thing about Akron is that they are able to give attention to detail and actually deliver on the integrative methods they advertise. The only down side for me, was that this smaller city had limited public transportation which I would have preferred to driving.

The biggest pro for my program is that I am receiving a quality education. The professors are considered experts in the courses they are teaching, outline the class well, give great support to the students, and help us to think critically. I believe the outline of the program to complete all courses before taking practicum and internship is a good one. The program should more strongly incorporate diversity issues (e.g. race, gender, religion, and sexual orientation) into our training. This has been... Read More

Living off campus will generally require some kind of commute if you plan to live alone. Rush hour traffic can also be an obstacle. The advisors are really helpful and respond quickly to any questions or concerns that I have.

I believe my graduate program is very good because hospitals are in need of Radiology Technicians. This program is very competitive which means I will have to work really hard my freshman year. They only take about 34 people in the program and that's not a lot at all. That would be the only downfall of my graduate program.

Some pros of the graduate program are that the instructors really care about their students and wanting to help them succeed. The class sizes are smaller so it is easier to form a relationship with your peers and instructors and everyone is working together to help each other succeed. A con is that the workload can be excessive but ultimately it is to help benefit the students in comprehending what they are learning and how they will be able to apply it in their profession.

My program has a specific focus on Literacy so I was able to get my reading endorsement which will be required to teach 3rd grade. The teachers for the in-class graduate classes I have taken so far have been great. My online classes are filled with busy work but I'm hoping to learn a thing or two. Finding someone to talk to about your graduate program is nearly impossible although it is no different than the lack of support during my undergrad.

I have absolutely loved my experience so far at the University of Akron! The Department of Sociology's specialty areas (inequality, health, social psychology, criminology) and faculty are geared toward helping graduates find gainful employment in the discipline. I would highly recommend Akron for anyone who is considering a PhD in sociology!
