Southern Utah University

This school does not even understand the people they are servicing with their online education. I have no idea how the in person classes are, but the online teachers are completely detached from their students. You have teachers that do no understand if you're taking online classes that you are likely from a rural area, far away from the school. Yet they have zero understanding for the fact that when you're not in a big city, you don't have reliable internet. Almost failed 2 separate classes because... Read More a particular teacher wouldn't let me retake a test and then a mid term because my internet dropped 15 minutes into the exam. The same teacher pays very little attention to their class, and blatantly tell you that if you're in the online class, that you can expect to not be treated fairly. That's in his syllabus. Complete disregard for actual teaching, it's a cut and paste class that the teacher checks in on once or twice a month to tell the students he will not help them or teach them. This was in a mandatory class for this degree by the way. So if you expect to get an online degree here, I would recommend any other school. I'm am so disgusted with the emphasis on a grade and a test, and not the learning and understanding of a subject. If I fail a class solely because of my internet dropping in a test, you've failed as a teacher and institution. The two letter grades I dropped does not indicate my actual understanding of the subject, but represents the teachers stubborn and arrogant attitude.

The number one hesitation I hear from students considering (or maybe not even daring to consider) Southern Utah University is, "What is there to do in Cedar City?" This question always baffles me because even though Cedar City is a small town, and SUU is a small school compared to many Utah has to offer, I was never bored while going to school there. If you love the outdoors, southern Utah is teeming with adventures from hiking to rock climbing to caving, but even if you don't, SUU does so many activities... Read More and has so much going on that you'll most likely never feel like you should have gone to a bigger school. Activities aside though, SUU gave me an incredible education. My largest class size was 60 students in a gen ed course, and once I got into upper division classes I never had one with more than 20-30 people in it. I never had a student teacher and every professor I had knew me by name and offered me advice and professional opportunities at every turn. The campus is beautiful and there are so many ways to get involved and learn even outside the classroom. I've never regretted going to SUU for even a second. It's an amazing school and I miss it all the time.

Southern Utah University was a great institution for anyone who is attending college for the first time. It is small enough that you are not overwhelmed by the size of campus or number of students in your classes. But, it is also large enough to where you can still get a college experience out the deal. It is located in a beautiful part of Utah, about sixes to Salt Lake and Las Vegas. In addition to these physical qualities, SUU is (at least it was when I was attending) a great deal for your education.... Read More Part of the small town charm and appeal comes with a reasonable pricetage for a full college education. I know that the institution has been growing over the past 20 years and they have started adding graduate programs at a regular pace. You can now get your bachelors and masters degrees from a great institution at one of the best prices in the state. One more additional perk is the requirement for an internship in your major area. This was established (I assume, as it was not available to me) to provide students with a real-world experience in their field of study. I think internships are priceless opportunities which can open the eyes of students and illuminate them to the realities of the real working world in your area of study. Internships also, occasionally, provide the opportunity for employment after graduation. If you make a good impression, you could easily walk away from a good internship experience with a job offer. As someone who did not have that as a requirement, I wish I had that as a requirement, take advantage of what you have at your disposal.

Southern Utah University is a wonderful institution with many opportunities for students academically and socially. During my time at Southern Utah University I was able to find employment and affordable housing while pursuing my BS degree full-time. The professors through the business school are knowledgeable, kind, and are very encouraging to students. The facilities were always clean which lends to a comfortable learning environment, and the student and staff associations worked together to host... The teachers are good but the administration is horrible. I sent my transcript in six times and it still took them a semester and a half to put it in their systems. I could not take the classes I needed because they would not put my transcript in and wanted me to take beginner level courses even though I already had a two-year degree from another school. I could not take the number of classes I need so I have now had to take summer classes to try and graduate on time and still am behind 1 semester.... Read More they constantly hand you off to someone else and hide things from you till you've missed a deadline or don't have time to meet it. I couldn't figure out what I needed to do or take. It was impossible to find someone who could or would help you. Then they have this EDGE program which on paper sounds good but the way they run it makes everything miserable to even do. I have never heard any student say anything positive about and openly say it feels like it's just meant to make you jump through hoops, but the program teacher just laughs it off and treat it like a joke. This school was the worst two years of my life and I would never tell someone to come here

Southern Utah University offered an excellent array of courses for this program. The school law course was especially insightful. I gained valuable knowledge in this specific course that has helped me in my career as a teacher and school administrator over the last 6 years. The instructors were easy to communicate with and very helpful and supportive. The capstone project was intense, but purposeful and wrapped up the program well. The instructors at SUU's Nursing Department are amazing! Earning my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing has given me more opportunities in my career than I ever would've imagined. SUU's Nursing Department Director inspired me to pursue a graduate degree, and instilled a love for nursing I didn't know I had. I completed my BSN while working full-time. The instructors at SUU do a great job teaching all the necessary information for the degree, while leaving out all the "fluff" so many other programs provide.... SUU is a great school. It is located in a great area that allows you to either ski or play golf in the winter with only a 45 minute drive. The education is top notch with awesome professors that know you as a student. They know your interests and are happy to help with school work or with career advice. I spent a lot of time talking with professors about potential work opportunities once I graduated. Now that I am in my career, I have reached out to them for help at work and they have been great...
