Degree: Social Work

I attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, where I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree (Social Work) and graduated in December 2011. My experience was wonderful during the four years I attended. The campus felt welcoming, and it was a place where I was able to grow both personally and professionally. In addition to obtaining my degree, I was also a student worker on campus which was a way I could get extra income while there.

One of the best parts of my experience was the... Read More

Looking back, I’m really grateful for my time at SEMO. It gave me a strong foundation for my career and helped shape who I am today. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone considering a degree in social work or looking for a supportive and engaging college experience.

Run don’t walk to Mizzou You will have more class options, better instructors and real career options. SEMO is a really expensive community college with athletes. Don’t waste your money or your time. If I could give back my diploma for a refund I would. This University is a rip off and they know it. So much money wasted on U studies. No where to park. Poor career advisement. Rude staff. Nothing positive to say really. I have stopped listing it on my resume. It is an embarrassment to me that I went... Read More

Southeast MIssouri State University was an excellent school for me to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. The professors were go supportive. They were constantly on the lookout for scholarships, internships, and jobs that they thought would be perfect for me. This prepared me for graduate school and future jobs. At SEMO, each student is an individual, and the professors meet you where you are at and push you beyond what you think is possible for yourself. I also loved their facilites.... Read More

Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) was a really interesting experience for me. As I am sure a lot of are, I remember being so nervous to step into this new journey and being on my own for the first time. I also had the pressure of being the first person in my immediate family to attend college so they were unable to provide me any advice or support regarding this matter.

SEMO made this transition so easy and seemingly effortless. They organized many activities to keep you moving in the right... Read More

This program was taught by instructors who were both knowledgeable and caring. I was fortunate to be a part of the 2nd Degree Accelerated BSN program and would recommend that track to others (if it is still available). The format of the program provided both strong didactic and clinical components covering a variety of content areas and clinical settings. Additionally, I felt well prepared to sit for boards, particularly with the completion of the suggested Hurst Review program. I passed boards on... Read More

Southeast Missouri State University is a great small town campus that allow for great one-on-one interaction between students and professors. I recommend this university for any potential educators. This University focuses a lot of attention on technology and allows you to unleash your potential as a new teacher!

Best thing to do is study hard. Then, work hard and play hard later. Try your best to get through school with few student loans - it makes life much more enjoyable after. Have fun! Learn a lot!

Southeast Missouri has been excellent. The staff are responsive, helpful and knowledgeable. The professors want you to succeed and this is obvious in the lessons and coursework. My academic advisor has also gone above and beyond to make sure that I have the tools I need to be successful in my program and I have been told that the student experience is of utmost importance to Southeast Missouri. I would highly recommend this school.

Degree: Finance

The business school at SEMO is very average compared to top-tier universities. Because the school is in a rural area, they do not have a lot of partnerships with companies for internships and job opportunities. In addition, the course work is very text-book focused instead of practical with consultant projects and bootcamps. I would highly suggest attending business school in a major city where you are exposed to high-caliber faculty, students, and companies. For example, if you want to work at Google,... Read More

Although I loved my experience at Southeast Missouri State University, I do not believe this school had an appropriate program for Pre-medicine students. The teachers were amazing and some of the classes were challenging, which is what is necessary for entering medical school. If I could change one thing it would be the healthcare opportunities provided by SEMO. Volunteer and shadowing hours were difficult to obtain here.

The social work program at SEMO was wonderful while I was in it. The staff were friendly and eager to help you in any way that they could. Over the last few years however, there have been several faculty changes and the program isn't what it was when I first was accepted into the department in 2015. There are still a few gems among the faculty, but there are a lot of bad apples as well. I'm grateful to have graduated from the social work department when I did. Social work is a wonderful field and... Read More

I was grateful for the help of the team in the counseling program at SEMO because it seemed that my life was never concrete enough at any given moment to be confident in my decision. I applied twice, only to drop the first time. When I decided to return, the faculty was welcoming and expressed their true excitement that I was making my way back to the program. I was stick between school counseling and mental health counseling, and they spent numerous hours explaining the benefits of each career path... Read More

Southeast is a great institution! The small classes and easy access to different resources on campus makes the transition from high school to college very efficient. The school is growing year by year and they are updating its technology and everything as a whole. Being a former football player here the sports atmosphere is amazing! If you're looking for a close, tight nit experience with students, staff, and faculty Southeast Missouri State is the place to be!

This school is great for a bachelor's degree. The tuition is not that high at all and there are plenty of scholarships out there to apply for. The school is very diverse because there is a huge international student population. The classes are anywhere from small to medium size. Degree: Clinical Psychology

Southeast Missouri State University has an excellent mental health and school counseling program. I am proud to have obtained my BS degree there in 1990 and my MA degree in Psychological Counseling there in 1992. Since that time, they have continued to expand and improve their programming and obtained CACREP accreditation. I have returned to Southeast Missouri State University to take classes to obtain certification in school counseling, and it is nice to be back after all these years!
