Salisbury University

SU is a great school with an amazing selection of professors and staff to support your education journey. The professors are knowledgeable and very helpful if you put in the effort yourself. The class sizes are very manageable and you get to know a good majority of your class as well as students in the same field of study. The campus is beautiful and easy to get around. This college is a very middle of the road institution. I think if you're looking for a college in Maryland that will most likely give you the financial aid you need this is a good fit. Attending here isn't going above and beyond and recent decisions with use of the institutions finances has left a lot of students asking questions. Read More a new staff building and more staff parking. The president of the college also gets a ridiculous amount of money before the work that they seem to be doing. This institution is not instilled confidence in me as it falls short and many important areas. I have not had any personal bad experiences with teachers or advisors but my advisors have expressed me that they are not the most proficient in that area. Most advisors are just teachers who have been forced into an advisory role.

After touring several schools, while preparing for a transfer from my current university in New York, I fell in love with the Salisbury University (Salisbury) Campus. Salisbury's campus was covered in green and the classroom sizes were small to medium, which was the opposite of the stadium seating I grew to dislike. When I finally started at Salisbury I was introduced to my on-campus adviser for my major, which I thought was international business (IB) and biology, but was informed that they recently... Read More discontinued IB as a major and only offered a degree in business administration with a concentration in IB. After that brief surprise I pressed on with my education. In the following three semesters I was unfortunately given the wrong advice on which courses to take by my adviser. See, at Salisbury, the advisers are just professors who are already giving their all in the classroom and are then asked to not only be an adviser to students in their programs, but also others. This caused may issues with students and since I paid for university via loans, I didn't have the luxury of additional time in school. Needless to say, the experience was frustrating. After trying to explain that I wasn't taking the correct course, following my adviser forcing me to take the courses I expressed had to be wrong (he later apologized, and the matter went the dean of students/the university president), my timeline for when I needed to graduate was coming to a close end. Since I again couldn't stay in university for the added 1.5 years, I decided to change my major to communications and history to ensure I graduated on time. This was an easy choice since many of my electives were in both subjects and I very much enjoyed all of the classes. The foundation of the courses was very strong, but I don't think there was much innovation in their approach to education within certain thematic areas of communication. In the end the experience was really one of a "teach yourself" environment to ensure you learned beyond what was being offered. My advice to students interested in attending Salisbury is for them to fully understand the role the staff provides and should there be any concern in class schedule to take it up with an administrator as soon as possible - to be informed will never be an issue.

Salisbury University is a great college to go to for many reasons. The professors are passionate and qualified experts. The University has many fresh and healthy eateries to enjoy a meal any time of the day. There are many clubs and committees that work their butt off to make sure everyone on campus feels welcomed. The only problems I have with this university is that the Social work program is very general. There are no specific concentrations like mental health or gerontology. Also, there are no nutrition programs; which is something that I am personally interested in. For the question, "How much did your degree influence your earning potential?" I gave only three stars. I gave only three stars because social workers do not make a lot of money no matter where I go with my degree. I would have to get a Masters and/or Ph.D.

Salisbury creates some great teachers, but they create teachers who read out of the textbook. The curriculum encourages no growth in the educational fields and no deviation from the current ways of teaching. As we've seen in recent years, history is not being learned effectively by today's students, and I believe that this is because of how it is taught. Salisbury University was one of the first university's to transition their program from a bachelor's athletic training program to an entry-level master's program. They have tried to make the transition as smooth as possible. Every semester we take an exam that reviews the previous semester's content. It is similar to the BOC exam we have to take. I love that Salisbury University is a university but is still a small school. The campus is a beautiful short walk from one end to another. However, I did not like the parking situation because there was not enough and paying for a parking permit was expensive. I did off street parking and rode my bike to the campus. Overall, Salisbury was an excellent choice for a BA program. The professors were down to earth and provided a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge to their subjects. I spent most of my time in the Sociology, Anthropology, and History departments and was pleased with most of my classes. I also found the school to be very easy to navigate and the registrar, financial aid office, and cashier's office were all run smoothly and were able to adequately advise me on my options. My only two complaints... Read More are 1) that my degree has not increased my earning potential that much (but that is just the way the economy is right now and does not reflect the school itself) and 2) the school does not have enough Graduate programs.
