Rochester Institute of Technology

I went to RIT with the intention of going into a science based field and after graduating I wasn't sure what I wanted to do anymore. The course work was very rigorous, and definitely think I came out of school with a strong understanding of the field and the type of work that is done in the field. I ended up getting a position as a clinical microbiologist out of school, and do think my degree put me in a good position to obtain this position. However, I don't think the amount of money and effort... Read More I put in to obtaining this degree reflected the kind of positions I was offered upon graduating. Overall, the school has a great reputation and the professors are fantastic, but I think they need to do a better job of helping students find positions once graduating that reflect their skills.

My college was an incredible, beautiful campus. The student environment was an accepting, supportive, and welcoming body with various clubs, sports and opportunities to become involved in. Endless resources offered to students that range from focusing on academics, mental health, tutoring, career support, and many others. The co-op program was unique and offered work experience that I believe to be so important for an individuals understanding of their career path. I believe it was a place in which... Read More students and professors worked to create a space for everyone to feel involved, supported, and understood. It was a very transformative time in my life and I have nothing but great memories and wonderful things to say about my college, I always recommend it to anyone interested.

RIT is a great school for those who are serious about studying their chosen major. I enjoyed the fast-paced nature of the courses and availability of options for different topics. The professors are very helpful and often have open office hours to drop by and discuss coursework. I recommend working with your academic advisor to help select the best path for the most enjoyable experience. One thing I wish I would have one is network more and be more social; it is often mentioned that a lot of students... Read More are introverted so it was too easy for me to focus solely on coursework instead of growing my professional network. RIT has plenty of opportunities for networking, including career fairs and special guests. Do as much as possible to make the most of your time.

I had an amazing time here at RIT. The community is absolutely amazing and really made me feel like home. Being a psychology major at a tech school can be challenging, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. I had a real interest in engineering and technology, which made RIT the perfect fit for me. I was able to take various classes outside of the psychology department, and even joined Hot Wheelz (the only all female formula team in the country). The dining halls have vegan options and they even had an LGBTQ+ graduation to allow the community to come together.

No matter how many reviews you read about schools and colleges, it all boils down to you. How much you are passionate and willing to dedicate yourself to a major will help you decide on where and what you want to do. It all depends on you and how you decide to make out of it. Through this, after receiving my BFA I realized I wanted to further my education by applying for Master's in Visual Communication Design. I studied Visual Media Photography which is a creative hybrid of graphic design and photography with a hint of coding and marketing. This was so broad, that I wanted to concentrate on visual communication. That is how it lead me to apply for Masters at RIT. RIT itself is different from other colleges/universities. If you are a nerd or you like pokemon, etc no one judges you, because everyone accepts each other for who they are. It is a technology school where people try different experiment and learn and help each other. RIT provides the best for their students and is always there to help those in need when asked. The engineer majors at RIT requires a 5 year program because they need a Internship/Co-op. That way they have better chance of being hired right after graduation. Many incoming freshmen may not know what they want, and I believe that is all right. You can try different classes and courses and then transfer. The Rochester Institute of Technology is an exceptional school to pursue your educational goals. The school provides many different majors to pursue, and the campus population comes from a variety of backgrounds and locations.
