Purdue University Northwest

I had an excellent experience at Purdue University Northwest (PNW). I arrived shortly after the merger, and felt that there was a cohesiveness to the campus. My courses were at the Westville campus, which is a beautifully quiet and quaint campus that is super safe. I decided to continue with my undergrad at PNW for the location, cost, and small class sizes. They are updating certain buildings and making it more modern! I have had classes in each of the buildings, and find them to be comfortable.... Read More As for the program, I had difficulty with choosing courses as the Behavioral Science degree is a combination of psychology, anthropology, sociology, and social work. I took some very difficult courses, and I was able to take some incredibly easy courses as well. The professors have all been very helpful and knew all their student's names, which was really nice. I hate being 'a number' in a group; if I had any issue whatsoever with any of my classes I was able to talk to the professors without worry. There are tons of resources and departments there to help students; you just have to ask for help. There's tons of seminars and presentations offered on campus, the Student Gov/ Activities board tries to do multiple events to get participation on campus. I would recommend this school to anyone, but especially for non traditional students; the work/life balance is pretty fair.

I graduated with a graduate certificate in Early Childhood Development. I enjoyed the program. The professors in my department did a great job at equipping me for my position. I use some of their lessons currently and still own the books because they are a great reference. Furthermore, I have been able to keep in contact with one of my professor's and she has been such great assistance to me even though she did not have to as I am no longer a student. I was very pleased with the online RN to BSN program offered at PNW. The classes are entirely online using the Blackboard platform and combine reading, videos, and the internet to teach nursing concepts. The classes are usually 5 weeks in length, which was perfect as it made the classes progress quickly without seeming overwhelming. I worked full-time while completing the program in about a year and a half. It definitely requires a commitment to study and complete assignments as well as time management.... Read More I found both faculty and staff very responsive to questions and concerns and issues were often resolved quickly through email and/or a phone call. Class syllabuses and assignments were clear and made it easy to tailor my work to achieve the best grades. Coaches in each class were readily available and provided support and encouragement. I recommend this program to expand on practical nursing knowledge to gain a global perspective into topics such as nursing research, leadership, and holistic patient care. By integrating the concepts learned in this program, I feel that I can better serve my patients in my daily practice.

My experience at PNW was that of a positive one. Teachers were extremely polite and helpful throughout my academic journey. There was such a comforting and family atmosphere when walking the halls of Purdue. Not only were the staff friendly, but the other students who attended the university were friendly as well. I transferred to Purdue Calumet University, after leaving the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC). I had failed my first science course of my life, and realized that UIC was not the school for me. They did not have resources, staff, or the personality to be able to work with students who needed a little more guidance. I found that when I went to Purdue's science admissions counselor they were great with directing me, helping me choose the appropriate classes that were necessary for me to graduate.... They made me feel at home and always had their doors open, whenever I had questions. My professors were the best I have ever had. Every professor I had, was happy to talk after class, during their office hours, and through email. Most of the professors were very understanding that many students had to work, and were willing to meet on off hours. I became very close with the head of the math, science and physics department, he has been a professional and personal reference for many jobs and academic opportunities I have pursued over the years. We still keep in contact and he was references for one of my medical school recommendation letters. Making the transition from UIC to Purdue Calumet was one of the best choices I ever made, it is the reason why I am continuing to further my education; after completing my BS in chemistry, I completed my MPH (Masters of Public Health), as well as moving on to pursuing a degree in medicine. I would recommend any student who is motivated, engaged, and really wants to see who they can become to give Purdue Calumet a chance. You will meet some awesome folks there, that are willing to go the extra mile.

Purdue University Northwest was a fantastic school to earn my Bachelor's degree. I received a good education at a fraction of the cost of other universities. Classes are small, so professors really do get the chance to get to know you as a person and student. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to stay local for school, and anyone who wants to work while in school. Scheduling is flexible, and there are two different campus sites for students to choose from, making it easier to commute from work or home.

I enjoyed attending Purdue University Northwest! The University is a smaller campus but still a really nice and modern school. The professors are dedicated to promoting the best learning environment for their students. Professors challenge students to help them grow and learn in their major. I did live off campus and commuted everyday to school but I always felt so connected to the college. The psychology department is wonderful and the experience they provide for the students is one that is unique as I frequently discuss with others in the same field. Purdue University Calumet's Construction Program had numerous professors who do not teach well, required books that we never used, carried unprofessional relationships w/students. If you are seeking a construction degree, I personally recommend taking construction classes at their main campus.
