I completed both my undergraduate nursing degree, and graduate degree in midwifery at OHSU. Academically both programs were strong. The first year of school includes a vast and in-depth review of the basic sciences including clinical anatomy, head and neck anatomy, histology, microbiology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, immunology, and pathology. In addition, first-year students dive into operative dentistry, periodontics, and removable/fixed prosthodontics in a simulation lab by practicing on mannequins with plastic teeth. The second year refines the clinical skills and incorporates many treatment planning exercises to prepare for the live-patient clinic in the third and fourth years. The third and fourth years are dedicated to clinical work with live patients, in addition to continued study in the clinical sciences. These years dedicate time to external rotations in which dental students have the opportunity to travel to a rural clinic and practice dentistry with more autonomy (but with supervision). This allows them to get an idea of real-world dentistry, especially with managing more patients in a day and having multiple chairs occupied at one time. This is a unique experience that not many dental schools have! Some graduates decide to continue their education in a specialty residency, but all graduates from OHSU are clinically ready and confident in their ability to provide oral care to a diverse patient population in the fast-changing world of dentistry!

The health management program of OHSU's Division of Management provided me with the best way to complete my master's degree after taking courses in many different programs in the past. The program is a great combination of mostly online learning with on campus face-to-face courses that enhance the learning, but are not burdensome. The combination experience really helped lead to my success in completing the program while also providing access to the many resources within OHSU's School of Medicine... As a pharmacy student at OHSU, we get to interact with other students in different professions such as dentistry, medicine, and nursing. This gives us the opportunity to practice our skills in different settings and learn from other professions. The technology at OHSU is amazing and there is ample quiet space for students to study after class without being bothered. There is also a Starbucks in the lobby of the Collaborative Life Sciences Building, which is a bonus for late night studying. The only... Pros: 1. Most knowledgeable and very supportive faculty 2. Learned knowledge and skills from my program already could be applied to my current job 3. The classrooms were conveniently located. 4. The program was designed for working professionals like me. 5. Each course was challenging, and held my interest. The online lectures and the readings were very helpful. The face to face sessions were interactive, the guest lecturers were perfect. 6. Overall, the program is very stimulating and thought-provoking.... Read More Cons: 1. The technical aspects like the power point projector didn't work sometimes.

Pros: The pros of the graduate nursing program in nurse midwifery are that the faculty are world class leaders and teachers in this field. There is an excellent faculty practice that we get the benefit of doing many of our clinical hours in. OHSU is a great place for academic quality, hands on skill building, a large number of clinical hours, and good support from the faculty to help you deal with the course load. I do wish there was a little more flexibility in terms of clinical placements, however, the faculty are an invaluable source of knowledge and are expert teachers, so the trade off is more than worth it.
