North Carolina State University

I felt very well grounded in my education from NCSU. There were a variety of options for classes, extracurricular activities, and student assistance programs if you were struggling. I taught seniors in high school for nine years and recommended NCSU all the time, it was a great school and a wonderful education.

I enjoyed my university quite a lot. For one thing, it means something around here to get into a university. It was the only one I applied to because I wanted to get into the history program and fought like crazy to. And overall, the history program is fabulous - I still think about the professors there, the people I met, the things I learned. They're all in my heart and they're a part of who I am. They made me into a critical thinker, a writer, someone who can take an insane topic and create beauty... Read More out of it.

I think the administration is utter garbage, though. NC State University loses a lot of respect for the Poe Hall fiasco (a place I nearly studied if they had properly bullied me into becoming a teacher!) but the university itself is so beautiful, so rich and vibrant in its history and its culture, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.

Overall I enjoyed my time at NC State. I felt like there were lots of opportunities to get involved and meet other students. I also enjoyed the experience of going to a larger school as well. I think that the facilities are fairly nice, though its really dependent on the dorm building you get. Keep in mind, most of them are older buildings. If you bring a passion for learning chemistry with you to class, you will likely do very well!

I would warn any new students to read the rate my professor scores before taking a class, and honestly try to avoid ones labeled "easy A". My experience with some of the math professors at state was that they were not great teachers and not interested in answers questions or were not very good at answers them clearly/ understanding what was being asked. They make up for it by making the tests really easy/ open book, but you won't gain the knowledge necessary to move onto the next class where you'll build on what you should have learned.

NCSU has been an excellent choice for my Computer Science degree. The program provided strong foundational knowledge in algorithms, software engineering, and systems design. The professors are knowledgeable and accessible, and the co-op program is outstanding—my 8-month placement at Schneider Electric building a digital twin platform was invaluable. Generally speaking, the experience at North Carolina State University has been nothing short of amazing. I will not lie, I was a little nervous when I joined especially considering my background and being a little reserved. I was worried about getting to know new people and building new friendships. The shift from high school was quite massive and I could almost feel homesick at first. I’ve had a mostly positive experience at NC State so far. The classes are useful, and most professors are helpful and approachable. Some of my favorite classes have been political science and entomology. I really liked political science because it helped me understand how government and policies work in real life, and entomology was just fascinating! The campus is fun, and there’s always something going on. It’s easy to get involved in clubs, student organizations, or research opportunities, which has helped me feel more connected even though NC State is a large school. While it can be overwhelming at times because of its size, I’ve been able to find a sense of community, and that’s made a big difference in my overall experience. One challenge I’ve faced is getting advising support in the psychology transfer department. It took longer than I expected to get guidance, which made planning classes and understanding requirements a little frustrating. I think improving this support would make the experience better for other students in similar situations. Overall, though, NC State has given me a lot of valuable opportunities and helped me grow both academically and personally. Between engaging classes, supportive professors, and the many ways to get involved on campus, I think it’s a great school. Despite some small frustrations, I feel like I’ve learned a lot and made the most of my time there.

As I parked my car and walked across Campus, it was clear that I was one of the oldest students there. I was frequently called "Teacher" as I entered classrooms and plopped my decades old bookbag next to my desk. I was a nontraditional student, attending as a full-time employee and mother of 2 children. I was nervous about this fact and did not intend to do more than go to and from my classes. I became a member of the wolf pack on day one and looked forward to spending my time at State. It was a great experience regardless of my age and life outside of campus. I attended games, study sessions and bought plenty of Alma-mater clothing. I highly recommend NSCU for those adults that decided to get a degree later in life. Most importantly, I showed my children that with grit and determination, anything is possible.

I studied Economics at North Carolina State University, and overall I really enjoyed my experience. The program is well-structured and covers a broad range of topics like microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and international finance. I appreciated the clear explanations from professors and the access to good academic resources, including modern classrooms, libraries, and research tools. One of the biggest advantages of NCSU is its location in the Research Triangle, which provides exposure to a professional and research-focused community. This made studying here feel practical and connected to real-world economics, even though I tend to prefer a more independent, self-driven approach to learning.

The main downside I noticed is limited career guidance specifically for economics students. While the university has general career services, I often felt on my own when looking for internships or job connections. More structured support in this area would make the program even stronger.

Overall, I would recommend NCSU for students who enjoy a well-organized, resource-rich, and intellectually stimulating program, as long as they are proactive about career planning.
