I am the second generation in my family to proudly attend NYU Steinhardt as a future teacher. I intend not only to address inclusivity of special education in my future classroom, I seek to improve my proficiency in culturally responsive teaching methodologies and use my experiences in Thailand to promote cultural diversity and awareness within education. This graduate degree allows me the opportunity to learn more about my own sociocultural biases while providing a framework that incorporates multiple paradigms. I specifically hope to focus on developing my masters research in culturally responsive behavioral systems and how they potentially link with cognitive dissonance. The supporting faculty for the program is equally as impressive and I love being at the epicenter of this diverse urban community.

The Food Studies program is a relatively new and unique program at New York University. Because of this the department is constantly working out the kinks of the program changing things around, sometimes causing feeling of disorganization. At the same time, this newness has also allowed for flexibility and allows for each student to create a schedule that works for them personally. Class within the Food Studies department are excellent, although sometimes quite large. Overall Food Studies is new program in a cutting edge field. Overtime, as the field becomes more defined the program will become more organized and sustainable.

The pros of my graduate program is that it is a small program compose of only 8 people. This means that the attention that we all have towards the program is very focused. We have connected and use each other as resources for our individual projects. The program also provides a curriculum that encourages intensive work within our fields. A great advantage of my graduate program is that it offers valuable training and formation in my chosen field. As an aspiring researcher in child development, I believe this program gives me excellent training in both statistical and theoretical knowledge . It also provides courses that are often only available at the doctoral level and therefore I feel I can truly be prepared to enter the workforce.
