Though I struggled socially at NYU during covid, I do think the school has great academics and better opportunities/events than in the past. I had a few bad egg professors, but most were generally knowledgeable and passed down great information for me to use. Networking can either be really easy or quite difficult depending on how social you are.

Food was pretty meh, but certain dorms provide kitchens and groceries are always nearby. If you are introverted like me, you'll need to learn how to get out of your box in order to make connections. Overall, I'd give it a 5/10.

As a Cinema Studies undergraduate major, I learned how to see film as a vehicle for social change and activism. The theoretical approach to film proved invaluable in my understanding of film as art and in recognizing how trends within the film industry shape and reflect national affect.

New York University offers a unique and personal experience through the various fields of study, leadership opportunities, and a study away sites. Living in NYC is also amazing and offers a non-traditional experience. While the degree is an expense, the NYU name is priceless.

If you're an extrovert and love the city you will have fun. As a shy person, I didn't love it but fortunately my major was small enough for me to make friends. I am not the type to go for a themed-floor but I was assigned one in my freshman year dorm (second semester, first I was elsewhere and it was awful) and the themed-floor was much more friendly and less intimidating.

I went to Tisch and found it to be a very hands-off approach to teaching. Sort of like, here's the equipment, figure it out. Also very directing-focused in the film program. So if you have a lot of previous experience and want to direct, Kanbar is definitely for you, otherwise consider your options.
