Mercy University

This is one of the most unorganized schools I've ever attended. The administrative staff is unresponsive, rude, and unhelpful when it comes to working with students. The clinical registration process is one of the most stressful days of the semester. The process is unfair and the site continuously crashes, leading many students unable to register for locations within the vicinity of where they live. On top of that, the staff is dismissive of any errors within the system and leaves students feeling... Read More disrespected and unheard when they rightfully ask for assistance. The professors are knowledgeable and kind but that is the only saving grace in this program. I urge potential students to go elsewhere.

If given the chance to go back and do it all over again, I would stay far, far away from Mercy. I’m a current Weekend Accelerated BSN student, 4.0 student with less than a year left to go.

Pros:
- Accelerated BSN program is one of, if not, the cheapest in the area.
-They accept a large cohort of students & have very lax admission standards.

Cons:
- They DO NOT care about you. You are a walking dollar sign to the school, they care about the money - not the students.
- Class scheduling is a MESS! They’ll... Read More have you on campus till 10pm, then turn around and schedule you for a 7am clinical the next day.
- They will lecture you on being “professional” then act anything but themselves. I cannot tell you the amount of condescending, thoughtless, rude emails I’ve received from various staff.
- Aside from a handful of professors they hire the laziest, most complacent and lackluster individuals to teach you. It could not be more obvious that it’s just a paycheck - the enthusiasm is gone, the passion is missing, the knowledge - nowhere to be found. You WILL have to teach yourself. It’s miserable, just be prepared - a good friend group, a white board & active recall before exams will save you.
- Clinical Registration & Site Options: A bloody nightmare! This could take up the entire review itself, it’s that bad. The clinical team can never be reached when there is an issue (that’s often) and despite having an population made entirely of commuting students, they focus heavily on the Bronx and Westchester - despite claiming they work in all 5 boroughs, Westchester, Suffolk and Rockland counties.
- Leadership: The dean is not actively involved and the assistant dean’s are dismissive and rude. The weekend program coordinator doesn’t seem to care to get involved and good luck advocating for yourself because they simply don’t care - they know they have you over a barrel, your bargaining power is zilch.

My advice? Run! But if you’re already in, just remember the only way out, is through - you can do this!

To me Mercy college was the worst experience, it made me never want to come back to NYC. The tuition cost is definitely not worth it. The food quality was bad and poorly prepared, also found hairs in my food frequently. The workers at the canteen tried mostly to make me and every one else to overpay, and deny including certain things that were supposed to be included in your meal,according to the meal plan. Read More For example, my Software teacher did not appear for our first class, since she did not know how to use Zoom. The dorms did not impress either, I understand they saved money there even in Manhattan, where it was supposed to be new. The last and the biggest headache was to just withdraw from the study. The administration was messy, unhelpful and unprofessional in this case. I had to BARGAIN for the price of just leaving, right before the semester started. The price seemed like depends on who it concerned. My friend who had contacts didn't need to pay at all, and someone else paid less than me. The first price I got was crazy stupefying, then after ALOT of arguments from my side, and a lot of avoiding me with no response, and mostly late and unhelpful responses, it got down, significantly. Absolutely horrible!!!! I have 2 weeks trying to register for courses and it's been insane. Very poor attention, everyone is leading students from one thing to the other and I'm in graduate school now. I've been in Mercy for a while and the attention is poor.. As being a previous student I recommend this college to absolutely NO ONE. They are the most unorganized administration you would ever deal with. You deal with a different person each time you try to communicate with them. Each person says something different and doesn't follow through with what they are supposed to help you with when it comes to sending paperwork or finances. The school counseling program at Mercy college has well prepared me to enter the counseling field post-graduation. When I was applying to Mercy I was looking for a school that was close to my house as well having great academic standing. Upon my first day at Mercy I was nervous and intimated because graduate courses are more rigorous than undergraduate. From my experience the professors are what make the program and I am extremely pleases with all of my professors I have had in my class. Mercy College's Physician Assistant Program's staff are amazing! From applying, to interviewing, to starting the program the staff have always been there with any and all types of help. I am beyond surprised with how helpful their financial services office has been through out the whole process. They reached out to me before I can even reach out to them, explaining every little thing that needed to be done in order to receive and accept my financial aid. Although this is a very rigorous curriculum there is an unbelievable amount of support from the professors, staff, and students. Alumni also visit and assist with various events such as their mission trips and student interviews. This alone states a lot about a school and their program! I highly recommend it!

Mercy College is great for those looking for a private institution at an inexpensive cost (comparatively) to other private institutions. I had some pretty great professors like Prof. L, Prof. M, and Prof. R. They made my time at Mercy College much more positive and enjoyable. Read More seem to take the approach of just throwing information at you in a lecture, and they lack enthusiasm for their job. The student population overall is positive, and the diversity in the school is good. Administration and registrar can be a hassle at times, but that's any school. From the time I enrolled to the time I left, the facilities were being fixed and transformed. The main campus (Dobbs Ferry) looks a lot better now than it did in 2009. Mercy College is a great school for business, medical, veterinarian, math, and psychology students, but for those in humanities or the arts, I'd say look elsewhere.
