Marymount University

Marymount University is an exceptional institution of learning. My transfer experience from Northern Virginia Community College was seamless and I was amazed at how many credits transferred. The faculty and staff are beyond helpful. I learned so much both within my major and outside of it due to their expert guidance. Most importantly they strongly advocated on my behalf and helped me find a valuable internship. Marymount's campus is pure eye candy, and the little touches like seasonal flowers help... Read More make it one of the most beautiful campuses in the area. The classrooms are also state of the art and feature the latest technologies. Lastly, Marymount is a fun school to go to. The students are all very friendly and the school creates no shortage of activities to do with them

Unless this is your very last option, I strongly recommend you avoid this school. You can get a better student experience at any community college, which this school basically feels like but for a hefty price tag. There is almost zero student life on campus, students are unfriendly and many don’t care at all about school. Ballston campus is a cloud of cigarette smoking and the parking lot is always closed. I enjoyed my degree program. The variety of field experience Marymount provides was incredibly beneficial to my future career as an educator. I still utilize some of the tips and tricks of the trade I learned in my classroom to this day. Many of my professors were very knowledgable and personable. The math and science professor should no longer be employed by Marymount, as she does not actually teach the course. I was very disappointed to find out she is not only still employed by the university... Read More but still using her techniques to poorly prepare Marymount students for their careers. I was very well prepared for social studies and language arts instruction, and I had great professors in all other academic courses (including an amazing geometry course separate from this math instructor). I still suffer to this day in my career due to the poor teaching skills of this professor, and Marymount should be ashamed to still employ her - it is why I did not even consider them for graduate school. Otherwise, I recommend them! I loved creative writing and all of my English classes too!

Marymount university is a small school in Arlington Virginia that was perfect for me as a college experience. The small setting makes getting used to college easier. Also I have Cerebral palsy and the disability support office is exceptionally supportive in terms of doing their best to make sure students with disabilities are not held back by preventable issues related to their disabilities. I find the Psychology department to be filled with great professors but I don't think I've ever met a Marymount professor in or outside of my field that wasn't passionate about their field and their students. Marymount's Nursing and Fashion programs are especially renowned. The only downside I have seen at the school is low security and strict rules in the dorms regarding noise and other policys. Once the dorm staff write you up for something minor they tend to show prejudice against those students in the future . Honestly, the security has improved but those issues can be remedied by communing if it's an issue for that particular student. As a commuter school it's nearly perfect.

I attended Marymount University's accelerated second degree nursing program. This program was only 16 months long, prior to starting this program I had obtained my Bachelors degree in Biology . This program was fast paced and initially Marymount was extremely disorganized. We had a professor or two that would begin teaching the class and then leave and they would scramble to find a replacement . The best part of this program was the clinical portion. I was able to get an inside look at the hospital and also show my work ethic to the current staff. The staff nurses were very supportive and encouraged me to apply for a "New Grad" position. I ended up receiving a job offer before my graduation which I can attribute to the opportunity Marymount gave me through clinical placement.
