I regret attending Lewis. Every single class is a mess. The mean girl attitude of other students and the faculty is terrible. It's like these people are still in high school. There is very little support. Most of the other students that I was friends with have transferred out. The student churn makes it hard to make friends. Everyone talks about how expensive it is outside the tuition and fees. There are thousands of dollar in required "extras" to get through the program. All I want at this point... So I am not your traditional student. I’ve attended four other universities while attending Lewis to get a feel on how different/difficult the curriculum is to other “prestigious” universities. I wanted to ensure the best possible outcome. Ive attended Lewis, DePaul, U of I, and NIU. What I learned is the curriculum doesnt get better with the size of the program or how much funding they receive. I chose lewis because they tend to put more effort into their classes. When I was at both U of I and NIU... Read More they had you download materials and participate in discussion boards. You were graded on your interactions with other students. The books weren’t made for learning. They frequently were apa formatted texts related to the class you were studying and they were hard to read because of how many citations were on each page. The adjuncts put little effort into the class and passed everyone. I honestly felt I was ripped off at both institutions. At Lewis you don’t have that as long as you take online classes with full-time faculty or take classes on campus. You are always provided with lectures and the full time faculty tend to rely more on a mix of quizzes tests projects and homework. The books are actually made for graduate students and don’t contain citations mid sentence which makes it easier to grasp concepts. FullTime faculty get back to you within hours not days and are always available to meet to help explain topics. The only issue I’ve had at Lewis is with its career services department. The department a waste of school resources. They either should close the department or fire the staff and start anew.

Not a diploma mill but also not an affordable education. The campus is in a steady decline. Professors are hit or miss. Mostly miss with the greater majority being adjunct faculty. While I was in the program some students did try to plagiarise on papers and homework assignments. Those students were EXPELLED. Lewis has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy towards academic dishonesty and not afraid to enforce it. My choice to leave the program came down to cost and quality. I felt I was not getting my moneys worth.... Private universities like Lewis are no longer viable alternatives since most state schools have lessened admittance requirements to both domestic and international students while also employing full time faculty. This leads to a low cost high quality education that private institutions like Lewis are unable to compete with. The larger budget and funding that state schools command allows them to acquire and employ the best technology. While I was in the program we were learning DBMS using SQL 2012 when we should have been using 2019. When learning new functions and features in excel we were introduced to xlookup but the schools program was so outdated it didn’t include the feature. This is just an expensive overpriced intuition that falls short academically. Its NOT a diploma mill.

This place is not what it used to be. The graduate level is a replica of the undergrad with less opportunity to challenge ideas, do research, and think critically. Classes are eight weeks and meet one night each week. Many students myself included complain that the program is too short at the end of each class. Consider other outside opportunities before Lewis University. It is not the school you are being sold.

Lewis does indeed have an idyllic campus, with some of the best faculty to ever facilitate education. At Christmas every year, Lewis sends out fabulous cards to anybody with even a remote connection to the university, on very nice 120 pound card stock. That does not seem to hold true for the Lasallians at Lewis, and the administration hired to represent them. Sixty-three to sixty-five percent of the faculty at Lewis is composed of adjunct, or part-time, faculty. To be an adjunct means to not only have expertise as an academician, but the skills to be an expert in the corporate, commercial, industrial world where most of us reside. It also means only thirty-five to thirty-seven percent of the faculty is full-time staff. Even less than that are tenured. An adjunct faculty member of Lewis recently died. This person taught at Lewis for twenty years. The professor's classes were well-attended, and most students appreciated the professor's efforts. The faculty member taught anywhere from three to five classes a semester, what elsewhere would constitute a full class load. This person went to the annual adjunct dinner, as well as volunteered for May Institute, seminars, convocations, and panels. When this adjunct could no longer drive to Lewis, the individual took it upon himself two days a week to get up extremely early, take Metra into the Loop, to be on time for the Lewis bus to the main campus. Lewis's official answer to the adjunct faculty member's death was a copier paper sheet sent to the family in condolence, on which had been copied a Scripture verse, and the heading, "On behalf of the Brothers of the LaSalle Community, I want to extend our deepest sympathies..." That's it. A few individual colleagues took the time to offer Masses, call, attend the visitation. Not the Christian Brothers, and not the administration that represents them. There are other examples that Lewis is not the Catholic university you would think it is. Look for these before you commit to attendance, or send your child to attend, Lewis. Do your own research. Find out how safe the dormitories really are. Look for the location of the chapel, and find the story on the conversion of what was once the chapel into a venue for luncheons and special events. Examine what you will receive for paying sixty-seven to eighty percent more than a public school, particularly for general education credits easily obtained at the local community college for thirty-three percent of the price of tuition at Lewis. And if nothing else convinces you to look elsewhere, remember that the majority of the professors who will teach you or your child are adjuncts, people skilled in both the classroom and the real world. And remember how Lewis treats those valuable, skilled people.

I started classes in 2012 as a transfer student from Joliet Junior College. I was finishing my last two years as a student in the college of business. The classes and curriculum were much less challenging than JJC. Everything seemed to be an easy A. When I graduated, I graduated with high honors. That doesnt say much trust me. I wasnt prepared for the real world. A after four years in the professional world I decided I would try for a Masters degree but the quality of the education dropped significantly.... I applied to benu in lisle and found the content and class difficulty to be on track with graduate programs. Do yourself a favor put in the time and take more than 10 classes for your masters degree. A typical MBA will consist of 65 credit hours. Your only screwing yourself when you graduate with a degree where you are unable to apply the content.

Hello! I actually transferred to Lewis University after my first two years at Joliet Junior College. My experience at the Junior College was exponentially better than my experience at Lewis University. It seemed as though there not a welcoming or accepting atmosphere at Lewis University. I was specifically singled out for being a transfer student in my chosen field which was quite frustrating at the time. I was disappointed in the character quality of some professors and students of the theatre department.... Read More Overall, the educational aspect was appropriate and challenging in a positive light. I honestly chose Lewis University for its local proximity to my home.

This school is absolute garbage. The program itself is relatively new. Let me give you an example of my experience. In a statistics course there are several power point slides that can be printed out so that you can follow along with the online video lecture (meaning someone reads slides). I was shocked to find out that a minimum of 1/3rd of the slides appearing in the video are missing from the printouts. Also, no less than 1 in 4 slides that are actually there, on average have different content... Read More (usually less or totally different) appearing on them. The lecturer often reads ahead and there is lack or coordination, 3-7 times I have counted the lecturer contradicts herself per presentation and there is usually 3 per week. What makes it even more frustrating is that statistics is a form of math, there should not be multiple answers for the same data in put with the same directions and yet classmates of mine and I submit very different work and everyone gets full points. You may think that is a good thing but it is not when you have to know HOW to do something because you will base the rest of your academic career of this "foundation." What adds insult to injury is that the "teacher" of the course is NOT the lecturer. Moreover, she has NO IDEA what is on the slides and apparently has never even heard the lecture. For 3 weeks I brought her attention to the missing and mislabeled material and my concern/frustration that the missing slides (thank God I hand wrote them) turned out to be on quizes and tests. The class I took before this was also a joke. As a matter of fact, several nursing programs do not even require this course. The teacher who designed it bombards you with a ton of information to read and the average consensus of time for this 3 credit class was a minimum of 30 hours per week. It is ridiculous that this teacher does not even know APA format. For the paper she asks us to write, we are given 3 examples, a grading rubric and instructions as well as guidance from the Lewis writing lab. Not a single one of these sources reflected the other at all. That's right, they contradicted each other. Insanely frustrating after attending Purdue University to come to Lewis and have classmates and teachers have no idea how to do basic writing. This will make group work a nightmare through the entire program.  Don't waste your time here. This school, even the dean, has refused to provide data on their pass rates on either of the national certification exams or their university graduation rate. This is the most disorganized school in which I have learned nothing and it is just monitored by people collecting paychecks who have no idea about what the content of the class contains.

I have been a student as Lewis University throughout my Bachelors and Masters Degree and am currently working toward my Doctor of Nursing Degree. The majority of my classes now are online and I am able to continue to attend this university even though I live out of state. I stay connected with my instructors on a regular basis. The University provides flexibility for students to continue with their education through busy life situations such as full time work, parenting and so on. The institution... Read More has available staff who respond to questions and needs within a reasonable time frame and are very helpful in assisting with needed resources. They have work study programs which I was able to participate in during my undergraduate years which helped me financially. They are a Catholic and Lasallian University who's mission is faith based and their student population is diverse and they have associations and peer connection to fulfill ethnic and social needs. The College of Nursing and Health Professions have excellent programs and classes flexible in hours to meet most anyone's needs. They also offer satellite campuses around the Chicago land area to accommodate students further. The DNP program is offered online. They have IT support that go above and beyond to meet any technical needs in order to successfully review and complete the online assignments. I would recommend this University because of the reasons described above, in addition to the desire the instructors have to ensure each students' success. Not to mention, the campus is beautiful with many areas available for socialization and learning.

I had fallen in love with Lewis University when I was a senior in high school. The campus was close to home and had beautiful landscaping. I had began as a nursing major which unfortunately was not the best experience. However, I changed my course of study to biology which turned out to be a life-changing decision. Each professor was trained differently so each had his or her own specialty which made each class much more interesting. Besides the amazing professors, the other staff members were wonderful as well. I had never felt unsafe while walking across campus because the campus police frequently walked around campus. My time at Lewis University was certainly a memorable one and I am glad I attended this institution for it has now prepared me for graduate school this coming fall.
