Attending James Madison University was one of the greatest choices I have made. While I was very hesitant to attend the university, widely because it was closer to home, the sense of community and the culture of the school really made my 4 years of college. There is always something to do, always an organization to join, and the professors are so supportive in the Political Science department. The staff and president are frequently walking around and talking to students too, so you always feel supported... Read More

My four years at James Madison University have been some of the most fulfilling years of my life. The campus, the surrounding atmosphere, people, and food were way better than I expected. My class sizes were reasonably small, which allowed me to connect with my professor and classmates. I would highly recommend James Madison University to anyone.

JMU is a fantastic university with exemplary facilities, the gym, cafeterias, and learning spaces are very new for the most part, and they have been building new dorms for a while now. The kinesiology department is one of the best in the state, they have a DEXA and BIODEX that students can learn to work with and lots of opportunities for networking and volunteering.

I loved JMU! It was an amazing school! Not to mention that it is super beautiful. Great faculty and staff as well. I was also lucky enough to make some great friends and other connections while I was there for my undergraduate degree. It was a true blessing to attend.

Degree: Music
I had a mixed experience at James Madison university. Some of my professors and classes were really excellent, especially some history classes and music classes. For the music industry program, I would’ve liked more hands on classes for producing and recording. I felt that I would’ve learned more that way. Sometimes I felt like other general classes were taught in an elementary style and not taken seriously.

James Madison University helped me become the extrovert I am today. I had the best introduction to being on my own for the first time in my life. Everybody was as friendly as they could be, no matter where you were on campus. The gym, UREC, is also one of the best gyms in the states by a landslide so it helped me boost my fitness life as well!

One benefit of James Madison University was that there was a lot of research opportunities due to the funding that professors received. However, I believe that the program could have been more effective at preparing students to enter graduate school, especially since psychology is a major known for needing a graduate degree.

I was in the Departments of Political Science and Foreign Languages with my degrees in International Affairs and Arabic at James Madison University in Virginia. I found both departments and program excellent. I had great experiences with almost all of my professors and with the content that I learned. I concentrated on Middle East with my International Affairs major and had a basic understanding of the largest challenges with the region. I wish JMU had had more Middle East specific courses, but that... Read More

Excited about this program and pursuing advocacy. Be forewarned through, the program is really a communication studies master's degree program. Although they accept students from all majors, previous communication majors will be more successful as the program is taught as you have a communications BA. Advocacy and being a community advocate is a fleeting theory in most classes. There is also a preference for those that have attended JMU as an undergraduate, then as a graduate student. They may be... Read More

I very much enjoyed my time at JMU. It really opened my eyes to my love for service and how much I wanted to keep giving back to community. There was an excellent service community and I found it had prepared me for my service year as a City Year in Washington, D.C. Also, the social work department encouraged the students to go onto their masters when they were ready, which is my I am pursuing an MSW in the fall at NYU.
