Chaminade University is an accredited college and offers many amazing graduate programs for my field of study which is education.What appealed the most to me was the convenience of being enrolled in a graduate program where majority of courses are offered online and at my discretion. For the most part, the only negative aspect of the program is its cost. However, it is understandable being that it is a private institution. With that, I can only provide a review of the quality of program that provides a positive outlook as I have yet to encounter a negative aspect of it. It is visible that our professors are genuinely concerned about our success as they strive to utilize instructional time and provide us with any extra attention we seek.

The graduate program that I decided to pursue has proven to be a good and smart choice by far. The professors are very knowledgeable in the subjects they teach. They incorporate both textbook and personal information to our discussions, which are not one sided. I really liked the MBA program at Chaminade. The class size at 6-18 was perfect. The classes were at night so it fit my schedule well. I really liked the quarter system however it was intense at times it made me focus more. Professors and Advisors were accessible to you. It also convenient as most classes were in the same building. Chaminade's graduate program in counseling psychology is geared towards helping working adults further education through their night and weekend classes. That was really helpful in giving me an opportunity to earn an income while attending to assist with tuition and living expenses. Parking on campus is also free at that time. Most professors seemed knowledgable and were helpful and readily available along the way. However, I do wish that information about the program and what to expect during internship... I also had some difficulty establishing contact and working with the financial aid office to manage my loans and wish there was more support in finding other means of providing funding (though I realize that is difficult for the graduate level if research not involved). All in all, I enjoyed the program and feel that I got a lot out of it. Student support could be a little stronger to make this a truly great experience.

The pros of my graduate program is that it is online to fit my very hectic schedule. The con about being online is that particular professors expect you to be online frequently, and check your log in times for participation and if they notice you don't log in much then they dock points for lack of participation. The reason people take online classes is because thier work/family schedule don't fit with ground classes therefore my understanding to online is suppose to be a fitting to your work schedule.... Though I have not attended Chaminade as a grad student, I have knowledge of the program and faculty since I earned both my associate's and bachelor's from the university. I have heard nothing but good things about the graduate program at Chaminade. The professors that teach the courses are few, so I see this as a great opportunity to form connections that will help students in the future. Read More class sizes are small; therefore, there is a chance for more one-on-one interaction with the professors. The professors themselves are very understanding and helpful. They take into account individual student's needs. In addition, Chaminade tries to help its students even after graduating, with a great Career Service option. The university also strongly encourages helping fellow students of all ages, helpful for anyone after college! The university is diverse, and as a non-local, I really appreciated that Chaminade has unique Hawaiian roots and pays homage to them. It's a real treat to be able to experience fire dancers and the like, as well as a learning experience. Because it's located downtown, there is a lot available to students. The malls and beach are fairly close, allowing students with access to a car the opportunity to unwind after a hard week of classes. For those with a religious background, Chaminade identifies as a Catholic university, complete with its own chapel. However, even those of different backgrounds can enjoy the school, as the university is not overly intrusive about its faith. The drawbacks: Chaminade is located in downtown Honolulu, which can make for an awful commute. Because it is a school that not many have heard of, I'm certain it doesn't carry the same prestige of more well-known universities. Chaminade does not currently have any scholarship opportunities for graduate students. While unfortunate, tuition seems manageable for a private university. Still, Hawaii is an expensive state, so every little bit counts.
