Capella University

Capella is disorganized. You can never get help from anyone. When you reach out they are rude. They don’t actually seek to help, they just try to pass the buck and make you jump through hoops to accommodate their overall incompetence as a university. The professors don’t care about students, and the staff is incredibly unkind to learners. If you have a major, time sensitive issue, they will fully allow you to be dropped from classes due to an “admin error” on their part, and then take their sweet... Read More time getting back to you. In addition to this, over the phone and in email they promise to get back with you and call back, email back within a certain time frame. They always take longer and that is if they ever get back to you at all. They try to blame you for things that they also admitted are their fault, the training must be terrible. I’ve had an issue every single time I register in a new set of courses, I hate it here.

The FlexPath program is perfect for my schedule as I work full time and prefer to learn online rather than physically in a classroom. The only complaint I have is the communication with financial aid and counselors. My personal counselor was always either "on vacation" or never responded to my emails. If I needed anything I would have to call Capella University and they would transfer me to another counselor to help me, usually having to wait on hold for long periods of time while being transferred... My counselor was also pretty rude if he did respond to an email and was never able to actually help me with anything besides registering for classes when I needed assistance with that. I don't understand why his role is needed at all since he obviously doesn't do anything. The financial aid department was also impossible to get in touch with. Every semester I had some kind of issue with them and would be on hold trying to resolve something for hours at a time. There where quite a few times the person assisting me had no idea how to help me and had to transfer to a supervisor. There where also quite a few times my call was lost and I had to start the process all over again. The actual academic part of the program I had no problem with, but financial aid and counseling where a nightmare every semester. If you are able to figure things out on your own, I suggest enrolling. But if you need any hand holding, this university is not for you.

I have been enrolled at Capella University with the FlexPath program for almost one year now. I am pursuing a B.S. Degree in Business focusing on Management and Leadership. I do not understand the bad reviews. It is not the responsibility of the school to keep up with how much a student has in financial aid. It's the responsibility of the student to make sure the finances are there and to keep track of how much the student may need to pay out of pocket. They have chat available and a phone number... Read More for students to call. I never had any problems with financial aid or the military aid I receive. Next, my instructors have been amazing and if I needed help I would reach out to my tutor in which I had a response within a couple of hours. I work really hard on my assignments and my professors have always detailed what I could have done better in my papers if needed. However, because I strive and work hard to do my best, I really didn't need a lot of feedback. I am looking towards a Masters Degree or another B.S. Degree with Capella University because they have been incredible and I can't thank this school enough. As far as opinions on a degree mill? Universities such as UF, UCF, FSU, all reputable colleges accept credits from Capella University. Be responsible with making sure your financial aid is accurate. Work hard on your assignments, and reach out to your tutors. They are here to help and will help you! I am truly blessed that God placed me in the hands of Capella University.

The Flex Plan Program is designed for the busy working person to work as your pace and you have 12 weeks to finish assessments. I am truly distraught at the fact that you are on your own. Meaning, you have no lecture, no videos, no help whatsoever.....only what you can find in their poor library and on the internet. I spend a lot of time on Lynda.com (where I learn way more than Capella offers. I have had another professor friend from another university look over the procedures for the MBA Flex Path Program and he was in total shock.

My experience with attending Capella University was great. The classes were very helpful and tought me new things about business, business managment, and leadership. My business managment studies also gave me educational knowledge of life experiences in the workforce about the different departments and how they operate. I was skeptical of Capella because of the old saying, "If it's too good to be true, it probably is". I had early access before class started on April 8th and completed 2 assessments for one of my classes. Once I received feedback and saw how well I was progressing I picked up another class. Less than a week in and I've finished the first class and I'm 1 assessment away from finishing the second. FlexPath is IDEAL for me. Going into the program I had my Associate's in Arts Degree, and ALL of my credits transferred, leaving me with only 20 class requirements to get my Bachelor's. I cannot wait to see what else this program has in store for me. For those of you interested, just know that it's not easy material but draws from real life experience in the business world and hands on tasks.

Please please do your homework before you choose this online program. You will need to read all the fine print. The flex plan is a farce. Their use of the black board is subpar. You must go to several different places to get the entire homework requirements. When you ask the professor a question, they respond with "ask your tutor." Seems like a waste of money paying a professor and a tutor. The professors are not on the same page when it comes to submissions. Some follow APA and some don't care.... From attending a community college in Los Angeles to attending another college online, Capella accepted most of my credits I earned through an Associates Degree. Before enrolling, I was given information about their guided program and flexpath program. They were honest from the beginning and I decided to enroll in their flexpath program which was life changing for me because it was extremely flexible and cost effective. I feel that I gained a substantial amount of knowledge. Every time I had questions , I received prompt responses from financial aid or the student advisors. Overall, it was great experience for me. I do not regret attending this school at all.

Before enrolling at Capella University, my vision was frosted. I did not know where to start or how to start but I started. Capella helped with everything from financial assistance to advising. First and foremost I should have listened to an associate of a previous student. I was notified by a 3rd party collection agency that I had an outstanding balance due to the University nearly a year later. I NEVER received notice by the University. I completed the course taken, in good standing. And before completion, called about balances that I could possibly have after looking online to get an understanding of the financial breakdown. At the time I only saw dispersements and no balances after... Read More dispersements. I called to confirm was that correct and was told it was with a sense of uncertainty. All answers received from any person I spoke with, were give in a language of uncertainty or they gave you the run around, saying they will follow up and never would. It was their way of sweeping it under rug and hoping you wouldn't call back. Fast forward, I just recently a collection letter a couple of weeks ago, which my attendance there a year ago. I called right after receipt asking to have it pulled from collections due to not being properly notified of it and I was told NO we called you and emailed your university email (which was inactive for me after completion of the course). Therefore, I would not have received the email. I counter explained that they had 3 ways of reaching me and if 2 of 3 wasn't getting a response the next is postal mail. Their only argument was, since they are an online university they primarily communicate online. Well if that's the case why did you go as far as, to call? They should have taken it a step further and sent a mail notification as well. Why am I upset because, they have put a stain on my outstanding credit history. And I tried to correct it with them with complete honesty and was blown off. And apparently this is common because, as I stated in the beginning I should have listened, what happened to me is exactly what happened to that person. However, I was trying to remain hopeful and optimistic.

I really liked my experience with Capella. It was a nice compromise between independent learning and traditional education. The professors were knowledgeable in their fields, and offered great guidance. After three years, I had very few negative interactions. I also found that when students were unnecessarily unpleasant, they seemed to have been weeded out, which is great. You definitely need some self-discipline, but it's better than traffic and parking passes, especially for a full-time student and full-time professional.

Having attended only brick-and-mortar schools in the past, I was initially skeptical about opting for a virtual Ph.D. program. However, I'm glad I chose Capella University for such an adventure. On that note, I had a fantastic experience during my almost four-year Ph.D. journey at Capella. During course work, I found the instructional materials, the assignments, and course-room discussions to be very useful. Also, I thought that the residencies I attended were well planned/organized, and they provided an important avenue to have face-to-face interaction with other learners and instructors. During the dissertation process, the vast amount of knowledge and instructional materials I had acquired during the course work and residencies were extremely valuable. In sum, I thought that my experience at Capella University was great--I was very impressed with the rigour, thoroughness, and often frustrating reviews I experienced while completing the 16 milestones for my dissertation study. Last but not least, I would definitely recommend this school to others in the future.

My experience has been amazing from the very beginning. My Enrollment Counselor, S.S., was beyond helpful and amazing to work with. My Academic Advisor, M.G. is very helpful and always answers any question I manage to come up with. The instructors are always trying to be as helpful as possible to help you succeed and pass the course. The BS/MBA combined degree option is not available for FlexPath. So if you are in FlexPath you will have to go to GuidedPath to complete the last few courses that are... Read More Master's level. The other thing I want to point out is the Scholarship disbursement. If you are awarded a Scholarship through Capella, they decide how it's disbursed through the quarters. I don't necessarily agree with that. I think if you are awarded a Scholarship, you should have the right to choose how you want it disbursed in your quarters.

This school is terrible. The instructors are arrogant and not helpful. They don't take into consideration that students come from different schools and their backgrounds, strengths and weaknesses vary. They get you in the school and leave you on your own. They don't care they have the tuition money and student enrollment numbers. That's it. You're left with a student loan for something you didn't finish. Not enough instructor support.
