California State University, Long Beach is a very large, commuter school located in the heart of Long Beach CA. The school has a very large demographic of students that ranges from ages 18-70. The facuilty at CSULB is very qualified and puts in effort to aid their student in their careers and to find jobs after graduation.

I studied Computer Information Systems at California State University, Long Beach from 1982 to 1986. I enjoyed my time there and learned a lot about business systems and computers. The experience helped prepare me for the working world and gave me useful skills I carried throughout my career.

CSULB was my top choice for university. The campus is absolutely gorgeous and the staff are excellent! There is ample parking on campus, but so many students walk, bike, or skateboard to class as well. Liberal Arts majors have to walk the furthest away from the parking lots, while Business majors park relatively close. The school is populated at all hours which makes for a very safe environment. Go Beach!

I transferred to Cal State Long in 2018 from Cypress Community College. I graduated in 2020 with a degree in English Literature. Overall, I would say Cal State Long Beach is good college to attend because of the professors who taught each course. They would start off each semester with an introduction to their classroom and would provide reading materials necessary for their class. All of their textbooks, as an English major were related to the course and helped improve my knowledge of literature... Read More

Well I went to school initially thinking I was gonna major to become an English teacher. I mean it was fun going to school and learning all about literature and the importance it is in art. The professors were all great and provided great insight. I dormed my first year there and it was enjoyable. I didn't decide to do it again the year after though just to save on costs.

I really enjoyed my experience here! All of my professors were great, and they were always helpful in making the most out of my undergrad experience and giving advice for pursuing grad school. They were very kind and understanding, pushing me to improve, but still very in tune to the fact that students aren't machines and that we have lives outside the classroom. There were many opportunities to get involved with professors' research and do presentations, which boosted my confidence in doing research... Read More

I gave it 4/5 stars because I disagree with how some administrative things are done. Like many universities, CSULB is focused on getting students in and out as quickly as possible, but they do so to the detriment of students. The general academic counselors constantly try to get you to register for more classes so you can graduate as soon as possible, and that seems to be their singular goal. You'll be better off getting into some kind of on-campus program/group that has their own academic counselors (I was in the McNair Scholars Program) where they actually care about helping you shape your educational journey. There's also the fact costs just keep going up, especialy for parking. But overall, my encounters with the individuals and groups on campus were incredibly fulfilling.

CSULB was an incredibly diverse school with diverse faculty and students. The intersectionality of the readings, courses, and discussions in class contributed not only to my academic endeavors, but to my real life. The professors were kind, supportive, and always willing to help. I made great friends with many of my classmates and the community on campus was very welcoming.

California State University Long Beach (CSULB) was not my top pick for college, my dream school was University of California Irvine (UCI). I got accepted into UCI and attended for 2.5 years, but ultimately decided to switch schools for several reasons. CSULB had smaller class sizes, which made a huge difference in my understanding of material. With smaller classes, I had more time with my professors to learn and ask the questions that I needed. In addition to this, I felt as though CSULB had more... Read More

My time at California State University Long Beach was very interesting. I started my college career in the year 2017. I was still there when we went through Covid and so some of my education was not as great because of the change to Zoom. I still recommend it for the cost it can’t be beat.

California State University Long Beach is often said to be a commuter school by the local population and after attending, I am inclined to agree. It always seemed like it was a college where people go to school and then rush to get home compared to some other schools that have more people stay on campus longer.
Academically, I thought the education and quality of professors was fairly good although not every teacher was the best. Some buildings I had classes in were somewhat rundown with sketchy... Read More

In terms of animation I think CSULB is coming up as one of the major schools in southern California due to its proximity to the industry as well as its improvement of its program, also the fact that the 24 Hour Animation Challenge originated on its campus also emphasizes the strength of animation on its campus

It was a difficult transition from community college. But once you understand how to study and work in teams, everything becomes easier.

I wish I would have joined clubs and had the time while I worked. Overall I enjoyed my experience and the subjects I learned

I fully recommend California State University of Long Beach. I took classes here online after their online programs started to open up after Covid and I am fully satisified with the classes I took. I graduated in Sociology and the online courses were very thorough and easy to follow along online. I was able to visit the campus during graduation and the campus is spacious and beautiful!

Degree: Communications (Speech & Rhetorical Studies)

CSULB is the only college I got into as a transfer student from 2 years at community college. My ideal school was CSU Fullerton as I felt their Communication program would better cater to the education I was looking for with a Communication degree. I preferred a focus more on media rather than literal study of communication so I feel my degree was not as helpful as it should have been, rather my internships were more impactful post graduation.

I really enjoyed my experience at CSULB. I had great professors and the facilities and resources offered everything I needed. The one difficult part of my experience would be the struggle to register for certain classes that were required. This ultimately ended up delaying my graduation.

The president of CSULB seems out of touch with the students and has made decisions that has negatively impacted the students attending. The school recently took down the student center which was one of the few on campus locations that students could hang out. There is never enough parking and the price for parking increases astronomically each year. The classes in the computer science department are a 50/50 on whether you get a professor that cares.

Good school like the campus and the teachers great education. Would definitely recommend to others. I was able to live off campus and easily access to school with the mini parking lot and I really love the trees of the campus. It makes it feel really open and pretty and serene.

The school itself was a fantastic breeding ground for potential. Setting up schedules, attending lunch, and even the dorm rooms all provided an essential and appreciated experience. I had a great time at CSULB, and the activities along with the people and level of courses all seemed adequate.

CSULB engineering education was an extremely cost-effective investment for me. Because of the fairly low-cost tuition, I graduated with almost no student debt. This gave me the freedom to work in an industry that I love, without the burden of paying back a loan. I also met wonderful people, even being the introvert that I am.

I had a really negative experience with CSULB's College of Professional and Continuing Development. I hadn't realized that I was enrolled in a class, and they charged me for it even though I never attended class, turned in assignments, communicated with the teacher, etc. When I tried to explain that I hadn't known that I was enrolled, I was met with a flat out refusal to hear my side of the story, as well as a notice in the mail that my $950 bill was being sent to collections. I felt really ignored... Read More
