The christian culture at Baylor is quite strong, so in general the environment leans conservative and traditional -- expect marriages before graduation and an emphasis in church-involvement and greek life. Overall, for the right student, Baylor offers a great mix of Texas culture and academic rigor that challenges that of UT Austin and other reputable universities.

Overall, I had a positive experience at Baylor University. I double majored in International Studies and Linguistics, and I really loved most of my classes that were related to my majors, especially Linguistics. My Linguistics professors were extremely kind and helpful, and really tried to relate with their students. All of my classes for my major were 20 students or less. I had some great professors for International Studies as well, but as it is a much larger department, it was more hit or miss.... On the positive side, I liked the freedom to choose from a large selection of classes and focus on what I was interested in. I think your academic experience at Baylor will largely depend on which department you are studying in. I thought the career services were okay but could have been improved upon. There are career fairs and decent resources if you seek them out, but once you graduate, they are not very helpful. Thats how most of the resources are at Baylor you can find them if you search, but they are not out in the open. I feel like it can be a really beneficial and fulfilling place to study if you enjoy your department of study and seek out professors that can help you academically, as well as utilize career and professional resources while youre a student at Baylor. I would recommend talking to people in the program you are interested before committing to study there, because everyones experience varies greatly.

I decided on Baylor University for its well known reputation in the state of Texas and how beautiful the campus is. Coming from a small town, Baylor was the perfect size, big enough to feel like a college, but small enough so that you wouldn't feel as though you were no one in a sea of people. Baylor University is an amazing school to attend. I did not have a professor who did not seem to care about my wellbeing and about my academics. The school had many different clubs and organizations to join. Everyone had a place to fit in. Baylor provided many opportunities for me to develop as a whole person. I loved my academic department and my counselor was always helpful. My department helped me prosper as a student and as a student. I never felt lonely or unwelcome on campus. Baylor University's Speech Pathology Graduate Program in the department of Communication Sciences and Disorders provides an outstanding education. This program provides a high number of clinical hours, challenging academic coursework, and a state of the art facility. I chose Baylor University not because of it's rigorous curriculum or their dedication to prepare students to provide quality care to patients but because of its dedication to global health. At Baylor I was able to provide education on health and hygiene in a small village in Ethiopia. We then traveled to Sierra Leone where they had the highest maternal mortality in the world. I worked closely with a community whose members had leprosy or had a family member with the disease. Though leprosy (or Hansens Disease) is curable, the stigma is still present. The Political Science program at Baylor University has a tremendous faculty. I encourage prospective students to figure out early on which field of Political Science they would like to focus on: theory, comparative, international relations, or American.
