Degree: Military Science

AMU is an absolute joke. I completed a BA, graduated summa cum laude and could not be more dissatisfied. In the entire course of my studies I never once had a core professor. The course work is horrifically outdated and includes the about me sections of government websites and army field manuals from the 1970's as required course readings. What little substance there is is repeated over and over throughout the entire program which is little more than busy work. I learned absolutely nothing and am... Read More

AMU is very military friendly. The professors take the time to endure that learning has taken place. It is worth your time to engage with the professors to ensure that syllabus intent is achieved. The intelligence field completely respects a degree in intelligence from AMU, and the completion of any degree will serve you well for an advanced degree from more well-known universities.

My first two years of college were are a local junior college and my last two years were at American Military University which is the same school as APUS but geared toward a different crowd. I received a BA and a certificate from AMU and continued my studies elsewhere. One thing I noticed is that AMU instructors are like they are everywhere else; great, good, and bad. The students all fall in the same categories as well. I had no problem finding a new career after I graduated and the legitimacy of... Read More

This school is frustrating! Yes, you get what you put into it but I could learn just as much teaching myself through open resources on the web. I've attempted several courses but the lack of help from every department is outstanding. They didn't accept but three of my transfer credits. I had 50 credits! This school seems focused only on the money. When I deployed, I couldnt extend the course and was too late to withdraw so now I owe money to my ed center. Way to go AMU! I would NOT recommend this... I only took three general education classes while here, I never got around to taking core classes. The classes weren't bad, but as with ALL online college classes, YOU have to teach yourself, as sometimes you aren't even in the same timezones or region of the world as your professor. Again, don't expect to be taught by the professors, except on forums and paper feedback; expect to self-educate, as with all online schools. If you can't self-teach and regulate your own study schedule, online college... Read More

THe program was fantastic, all the classes were very well organized and any issues that arose were very easily taken care of or at least help was easy to find to fix said issues. Classroom instruction was great and very easy to follow. with all classes being online it is a bit of a challenge if that is not what you are used to. However, the first class in the program is a class specifically designed to get you used to working in an online environment
